恐怖片 horror movie
(X) scary movie

Josie: What kind of movies do you like?
Josie:
Karla: Mainly romantic comedies.
Karla:
Josie: Not me. I’m all about horror movies.
Josie:
Karla: Oh no. I find them so unrealistic.
Karla:
Josie: And I suppose you think that what happens in romantic comedies is just like real life?

出去吃 eat out

(X) eat outside

Advertisements

Karla: Do you want to eat out tonight?
Karla:
Josie: Sure, there’s a new place down the street I’ve been wanting to check out.
Josie:
Karla: Maybe somewhere where we can “check out” some men as well!
Karla:
Josie: Karla! Those romantic comedies are turning your brain to mush.
Josie: Karla!
Karla: Oh lighten up!
Karla:

It’s raining outside. It seems that none of you feels like going out, so let’s eat in then.

我要_____ I’m gonna ______.

 (X) I gonna _____.

Karla: I’m gonna order us some wine.
Karla:
Josie: It certainly has been a long week.
Josie:
Karla: (sighs) Josie, when am I ever going to meet Mr. Right?
Josie: Again Karla? You don’t need a man in your life to be complete!
Josie:
Karla: I know … It’s just sometimes I really do wish life was more like a romantic comedy.

gotta 是 got to 的縮寫,而 have got to 的意思為口語的「必須」。

Wife: I’ve just bought two movie tickets for tonight. Meet up at the cinema after you get off work?

Husband: Sorry, dear. Not tonight. I’ve gotta work overtime.

Either (one) is fine. / Both are fine.

(X) Both is fine.

(Both getting progressively more drunk)
Josie: I’m going to get another bottle of wine. White or red?
Josie:
Karla: Both are fine–but make sure you get some shots as well!
Josie: Haha, okay!
Josie:
Karla: Josie, it might be the wine talking, but don’t you think that guy at the bar is really cute?
Karla: Josie,
Josie: Which one? The tall one?
Josie:
Karla: Yeah. You know what? I’m going to ask him out!
Karla:

Annie: I’m planning for our vacation. I think we can go to either Canada or the US. Which one sounds better to you?

Ben: I have no idea. Either one is fine.
Ben:

(去電影院) 看電影 go to the movies / go see a movie

(X) go to the movie

go to the movies 是一個較美式的用法, the movies 有「電影院」的意思 (要記得 movie 一定要加 s),所以 go to the movies 的字面意思是「去電影院」,去電影院基本上就只有一個目的,就是看電影,因此這句的意思是「去電影院看電影」。另外,也可以用 go see a movie 表達相同意思。

Karla: Hi there, I couldn’t help but notice you from across the restaurant.
Karla:
Bob: Hi, I’m Bob. Very nice to meet you.
Karla: Very nice to meet you Bob. Do you come here often?
Karla: Bob,
Bob: I’m actually new in town, so I’m just here trying to make some new friends.
Bob:
Karla: You know, I don’t normally do this but … would you like to go see a movie sometime?

一週年紀念日 first anniversary / one-year anniversary

(X) first-year anniversary

(ONE YEAR LATER)

Josie: I hardly ever see you these days Karla.
Josie: Karla,
Karla: Oh you know how it is. Always doing things as a couple!
Karla:
Josie: Yes, who can believe that it’s going to be you and Bob’s one-year anniversary? Are you doing anything special?
Karla: We’re going with another couple, Susan and Ray, on a three-day camping trip to the national park.
Josie: Wow, sounds romantic.
Josie:
Karla: You could say … it’s just like the movies!
Karla:

你覺得______怎麼樣?What do you think of/about _______? / How do you feel about ______?

 (X) How do you think about ______?

How do you think about…? How do you feel about….?

Karla: Josie, you have to get me help! Bob has gone crazy! He decapitated Susan and Ray!
Josie: Hmm … How do you feel about saying: “You were right Josie, horror movies are more realistic than romantic comedies”?
Karla: Josie! This is really not the time!
Karla: Jose!
Josie: Alright, alright, calm down. Besides the murders, how are you enjoying the trip? What do you think of the national park?
Karla: Well … I suppose it is okay. But it’s really difficult to look past the murders if I’m honest.
