Let's go! Yes! There it is, I can see it [Rainbow Bridge] Can you see it? We made it, huh? Let's go get Grandma and Grandpa? Sarah: Yea Nate: OK Ha ha ha ha! Yeah! I see them, they're way over there. Give 'em a big hug! Give Grandma a big hug! Grandma: Oh Sarah! Hey, what's this thing? Is that a card for us? Look at that Grandpa! "I love you!" Grandpa: Oh my goodness! Grandma: That is so cool, thanks Sarah! [Life in Japan Music] Girls: Hi! Grandma: You guys are really sneaky! Grandpa: Anna, how are you? So good to see you, Sweetie! Grandma: You guys have got so tall! Grandpa: Oh, I love you guys! So where were you right now? Rebecca: Oh, at Juku. A place where we do summer homework and the teacher is helping us. When Grandma and Grandpa come from the States it's lots of presents! It's Christmas in July, in August now! What happens when you go pee in the potty? Joshua: Toys?! Nate: You get a toy? Joshua: Yea. Nate: From Grandma? Nate: Oh — say thank you! Grandma: Do you know what that is? Not only are Dad and Mom coming to visit us here in Japan but my sister Amy just so happens to be coming to Japan for work... Ruth: Oh! Welcome to hot Japan! Amy: Yeah, seriously! [Everyone gasps and oohs] Girls: He's so cute! Ruth: Arms up! [Joshua strips and everyone laughs] Grandpa: No, you don't have to do that! Did you make this?! Amy: Yea, so it's not the best craftsmanship. I sewed those straps on there so you can tighten them up because there's plenty of slack, yeah. Ruth: OK, let Mommy do it. Ready? Nate: Can you show him in the mirror there? Ruth: Oh my goodness! One of our first stops here for our foreign travelers is for sushi... Conveyor belt sushi — very important in Japan for society. Getting ready, we got two tables. This is some of the good stuff: Tuna... You better grab it before it disappears! Grandpa: Sounds like [sings Mission Impossible Theme] Nate: Well no, wait 'till you see what happens! You you put your dishes in — you put them in here, the dirty dishes. And, when you put in 5, you can play a game and you can win something. Up here, at the top. [Grandpa laughs] Whoa, Amy's like a chopstick pro! [Amy nods] Whoa, hey dude. What does Mommy have over here? Ruth: Shrimp, avocado and onion. Nate: Shrimp, avocado and onion! So it's got shrimp, it's got onion rings... Grandma: Look at this! Grandpa: Wow! Grandma: And here's like the onion ring Grandpa: Oh my goodness And here's fried seaweed or lettuce? Fried lettuce it looks like. How's it going there big guy? Are you learning how to use chopsticks? Ruth: Let Mommy help you. So what do you think Amy? What's been the best so far? Amy: Yeah, it's hard to decide. I really like the fatty tuna rolls. Grandpa: The sushi burger was my favorite. Nate: Yea, that was good! Mom? Grandma: Tempura shrimp. Nate: Yea. We could have all fit in one booth! Oh my! Ruth: Well, we could've, I don't know if you could've fit! Oh, my tempura! Nate: Oh, get the tempura! Ruth: Thank you. Nate: So we have a conundrum here. Amy: Uh oh. Each one of these plates right here is worth 100 Yen. And if you put 5 of them in, then you get a chance to play the game and maybe win a prize. So if we buy two more plates, we could go for the prize. What do you guys think? Grandma: What's the prize? Grandpa: Do we have to eat the food? Becca: Yes! Ha ha! Just order the plates! The prize is probably like 5 yen worth, you know. The girls just got their first Pasmos [train commuter cards]! Wow, so cool! Your own Pasmo! Here we are, in Omotesando! Ruth: Look at this! You can open it up and put your stuff in. Grandma: Oh, wow! Ruth: Isn't that different? Grandma: That is cool. Girls: I want to buy one. Nate: All kinds of oriental knick knacks. Ruth: It's expensive, so we're not buying it for you. Grandpa: Postcard for you. That's right, Fuji san. Tokyo Skytree Tower! Ooooo, what does Ruth like? Mmmmmm, it's too expensive. Amy: I got a Samurai sword for Eli, actually two. Right? So, two for the price of one, awesome. Nate: Half off. Sarah, you just got something?! What did you get?! Oh! Sarah: A purse. Oh, that's special. Amy: These were 300 each Ruth: Oh, 300? Well, we're doing what good dads and grandpas do: as our ladies shop, we hold down the fort. Grandpa: Very patiently. Nate: Very patiently, without any complaining... and getting our wallets out when we're told to. Nate: Uh! It is a hot one! This is the train we're going to get and take it to Shibuya. Find what you want? Amy: I think so! Yes. Cool! OK. Card Fanatic. It's hard to find baseball cards here [in Japan] but... Amy: We did it! Here we are at world-famous Shibuya crossing with Mom and Amy and Hachiko. Yes, there's Hachiko. Did you make a friend, Joshua? Joshua: Yeah. Who is it? Is it Aunt Amy? [Joshua nods] Anna reading: "Maybe I"ll be a clown, maybe I'll be a tree." "Maybe I"ll be a pirate, maybe I'll be a bee." If I were a pig, I'd say "Oink oink oink oink." Taking everyone to Paz Coffee Shop! So Amy, welcome to Paz Coffee Shop — first time! Got yourself a cold drink! Amy: I did, it's delicious. Grandma: That is good! Nate: Well done, well done. What is this that we're up to here? Ruth: Making obentos. So these are the rice balls in here. We have some little hot dogs, I'm heating up some edamame beans. Sarah's bento is here with a rice ball and some little meatballs. And we can put soup or salad [in here]. I'm hoping to buy some apples to put in this one. And we will be set! What do you think?! Anna: Scary! Nate: Scary? We're going to go up the mountain. Arigatou! (Thank you) Here we go! Here we are, all at the top! We're going to explore and see what we can find. One, two, three. So sunny! Whoa! That's like Shinjuku, and all of that way over there. Becca: Can I take a video? Nate: Yea, here it's videoing right now. You want to walk around? Becca: Hi, what are you doing? Ruth: I'm resting. Becca: Oh, ok. Anna: Bwhat? Are you taking a video?! Becca: Hello! Look at that beautiful [view] Grandma: What did you do? Becca: Anna tapped something! Anna: No I didn't! Grandma: Then go over to your dad. Daddy? Here comes an Anna-cakes! The girls are heading to their first Summer camp ever, huh?! Are you excited Rebecca? Rebecca: Yes. Are you excited, Anna? [Anna gives thumbs up] Yes?! Amy: Konichiwa! Camp registration, ahhhhhh!!!! Are you all set? We'll see you in a couple of days, ok? Anna: OK Nate: I want to hear all about it when you come back! Look who it is! Ben: Wow! Nate: Getting something to eat? Ben: Yeah man. Nate: Oh, very nice. Are we all ready for fireworks, guys? Everyone: Yeah! How is it? Ruth: Ah, so good! Salty. What are you eating?! Popcorn. Are we ready for it to start Big Guy, yes?! Whoa! Is that so cool?! Joshua: Yes! Wow! Whoa, so cool! Joshua: It's so loud! That was awesome, dude! Spider webs? Joshua: Yeah. Joshua: Those are cool spiders. Nate: They're pretty! Joshua: They're so cool. Oh! Lot of them! Nate: Wow, a lot of them! Dude! Was that the best so far? That's awesome!
