  • hi tech lead here and today I thought I would review the Sony Rx 100 mark six.

  • Now this is one of the newest point and shoot cameras, so these are X 100.

  • Lineup has been incredible ever since it came out.

  • Now I've been playing with this camera over the past few days, and as a semi professional photographer, I wanted to give you my thoughts about it and what it can do.

  • And the first thing to know is that it's going expensive camera.

  • It comes in about $1200.

  • Right now.

  • There are similar competitors here and there, but there are a few key features that make this camera really stand out.

  • So the first thing to know is compared to the prior generation.

  • Mark five.

  • The Mark six has a new lens, and this is one of the biggest differences about this camera.

  • This lens is 24 to 200 millimeters, so that's actually a very good range.

  • Three.

  • Prior lens was just 24 to 70 millimeter, which is about three Exume.

  • This lens is a eight Exume, so that's quite a big difference.

  • However, it comes with a downside, which is that it is about twice a slow at the widest angle.

  • It is F 2.8 compared to F 1.8 for the prior generation lens.

  • So I think that's kind of a big hit.

  • In addition to the lens, the Mark six also has a touch screen that you can use.

  • You can tap on it to focus on different areas in the scene, but that's pretty much the only major usage of this touch screen.

  • You don't really use it for much other things.

  • A few other key things about the Rx 100 are this multiple LCD screen, which is really nice because you can use it for shooting down though you can.

  • You hold it up high and look under it for, or you can also use it for flogging.

  • And this is a very cool mode.

  • In addition, the Rx 100 also has Elektronik viewfinder, which you can use once your face gets close enough.

  • You can use it.

  • It's essentially a LCD screen, then said, I generally don't use this Elektronik viewfinder all too much, but it could turn not useful.

  • I think people generally use it when it's really bright, and then the screen becomes a little bit harder to see now.

  • The Mark six has a few additional features compared to the mark five, maybe little tweaks and adjustments here and there like maybe better skin color.

  • I think this screen tells other way 90 degrees now like this so that you can get a better view when you're under the camera normally and my only till 45 degrees something like that on the mark.

  • Five Emperors generations.

  • So that's really the main difference with the Rx 100 mark five.

  • And I think the mark fives with an excellent camera.

  • But it's also not bad idea to just pay the extra, and then you get this 200 millimeter zoom.

  • The zoom is a lot of fun.

  • I was out shooting with it today, and it's just more fun than I imagine.

  • Like you can use and resume really far away.

  • You can shoot animals.

  • They say The 24 to 70 millimeter range, which is with the Mark five, is a very practical and useful range.

  • It is known as the event lens range and wedding photographers, for example, can shoot an entire wedding event using this lens.

  • But they were also often carried the 72 200 millimeter lens, which is this huge, massive telephoto lens, and us to really get those zoomed up shots.

  • It's really cool that this one camera is like two lenses built in.

  • Now when I buy cameras, I look at really two things only, and that the sensor size and lens and the sensor size for this is one inch and most digital cameras generally coming about 1/3 inch.

  • The iPhone is 1/3 inches, so this sensor is about three times the size of a normal camera.

  • And the reason This is important because the bigger the sensor, generally your colors will look better.

  • The image quality is just going to be much nicer.

  • And then the addition is going to be easier to get okay, which is that blurring of the background.

  • And I think it's a difference between San iPhone shot where the image looks okay.

  • It's like a block shot.

  • You just post it and share it.

  • But it's not the temple thing you really want to print in the book, and it just lacks death.

  • The colors on this are generally going to look better.

  • They're going to have more contrast, more pop.

  • So back in the day, and Nikon and Canon were dominating the camera market and then suddenly came in and out of nowhere, they began pioneering really consumer friendly camera technology that was actually very professional as well.

  • And so they actually began making the sensors for the Nikon D 100 full frame professional, Siri's and so in the sensor technology is also powering the iPhone.

  • So that's why I think that this only brand is actually one of the best brands right now in the field of cameras and photography.

  • So at the one inch sensor says, this is somewhere between, like a point issue and that DSLR crop sensor camera.

  • But the great thing is that it's under really come back size.

  • And when you buy a camera, I think you really have to ask yourself what you're used such case.

  • So for me, I want to use to detect pictures of my kids, my pets, my family and then for me.

  • I might also want to use it to do some flooding, so set it up in this position.

  • The cool thing about this only sensor is it will actually other focus.

  • It has all the focus bill into that sensor on the hardware level, whereas most cameras are going to be using the software to slowly, although focus.

  • And because of that, it makes it very difficult to use General point issue cameras to shoot pets, animals, fast moving targets.

  • And when you combine that with a telephoto lens, it's just a really cool package because that fast other focus becomes even more necessary when you're shooting targets at long distances because they're just moving around the screen so quickly for blogging.

  • I think this is also pretty neat because it has image stabilization so that image stabilization comes in really handy.

  • When I'm zoomed in telephoto, it just gets rid of a lot of the hand shaking.

  • So on the front, the camera, you really just have this ring.

  • This ring's functionality changes generally by here I'm using to adjust the aperture.

  • This is for zooming in, zooming out.

  • We have a little flash here.

  • This'll button triggers that Elektronik viewfinder, which, personally I don't use too much now on the front we have a few different modes are going tell you which most I might stick with one this aperture Priety the other shudder party.

  • So temperature priority.

  • It's good for taking for those.

  • And you know, all you do is you just adjust the aperture and it's got although I s O said that and you could just shoot and it was shoot raw mode.

  • Not the thing to know is this camera so knew that at the moment Adobe camera raw for the shop light room.

  • They don't support the raw format of this camera, yet they eventually will.

  • But at this point, you really have to use on these proprietary software to process the raw files.

  • That's kind of a pain.

  • So at the moment I might just be shooting J Peg, which is kind of a waste.

  • But I can switch to raw and still process if I really want to.

  • There's a function but in here and that gets you into the camera settings where you can change all sorts of things, like what the S.

  • O.

  • Is going to do.

  • White balance.

  • And one cool thing about white balance is they have a mode where you can quickly set the white balance.

  • You simply just hold the button.

  • It takes a picture, and you can use that as the white balance, the other one.

  • A shutter priority, which is, You know, you can just shoot based on shutter speed Big.

  • Another cool move here with just HFR high frequency.

  • And this is for shooting slow motion and their menus system is very complicated.

  • They have all sorts of different things.

  • You don't really necessarily need to come in here to mess with it.

  • So with the high frequency multi can shoot slow motion, you can actually drive it up to 960 frames per second, which is insane.

  • Slow motion to 40 is good enough for me.

  • It's good for short term slow motion when you know there's a scene that you want to do, and it's like five seconds or so.

  • There's another funny feature this has, which is a pen around mama.

  • You can just start it and then you just rotate it and it could make a panorama for you.

  • And then the other interesting moment here is going to be that video mode.

  • So in video mode, you can start video by pressing this button, and the cool thing is you can see that it would just focus like it's focusing on my hand.

  • Now move it out and it's slowly focuses to the background and invite.

  • Bring my hand here.

  • It was slowly focused on my hand against.

  • One interesting thing is the exposure changes as you move the camera around right?

  • That's kind of unprofessional thing.

  • I set it up so that if I press this button, it locks the although exposure.

  • So then the exposure doesn't change anymore, and that's quite nice.

  • One annoying thing is that the exposure doesn't necessarily attract the focal point.

  • So even though I'm focusing on my head, my head can still become very dark.

  • So probably the best way to do this is to just use.

  • Although exposure luck.

  • Let me show you quickly how cool the other focuses, because you see how fast at this and even by some other way in see it's very quick.

  • This other focuses so impressive and as it like how quickly I can shoot.

  • Let's say there's a target so it can shoot very quickly, and I think that's great.

  • The image quality is okay but important to remember that this camera will not even be a DSLR camera, which has a much bigger sensor.

  • And even though this camera can shoot Ramos, that Ramos is not necessarily going to be really Graham move like I tried processing some of the raw photos and even though it was much better than J Pick as there wasn't able to restore as much of the photos, shadows and highlight area as much as I'm normally used to be able to do on the standard full frame camera.

  • So I think overall, it's important to understand why you're getting this camera for me.

  • I already have a full frame camera, but it's so big, it's heavy.

  • I'm not always going around with it, and especially with a baby and a dog, my hands are often full Already.

  • I don't have enough hands to be managing all that, plus a full frame camera and cameras on phones are also generally quite limited because they don't really have a good zoom feature.

  • They don't really have good book, a effects they don't really have got the other focus features.

  • If you're looking at other cameras in this range, I would look out for a few features.

  • One feature which I think the panels on the cameras may not have at this point is this tilting LCD screen, which I think is really cool to have is good for flogging is good for getting really cool shots.

  • As I mentioned, compared to prior generations, this does have that 200 millimeter lens.

  • If you're interested in shooting birds, animals or even portrait, then this lens is really great for that.

  • I think that Cannon G seven X series is also actually quite good, and it may be enough for what you're looking for.

  • But what The Sun the Rx 100 series has is that face detect all the focus, the F 2.8 compared to the mark five.

  • Siri's is kind of a shame.

  • It's a little bit darker than it should be now.

  • As for whether this camera is worth 1200 bucks, I think the thing to be aware of is the cameras like this seem very fragile.

  • They say in the instruction manual that it's not us proof is not waterproof.

  • It's not splash proof.

  • This lends itself is three pieces, so it looks very easy to get stuck and things like this, they say you shouldn't be putting this camera inside your pocket and sitting on it.

  • It's not heavy duty other.

  • They say that this Elektronik viewfinder when you push it back in, make sure it doesn't get stuck.

  • And so what?

  • I think this should generally paint a picture for you of Is that this camera is kind of a delicate device, and you should be careful about it.

  • So it does make me a little nervous carrying around a $1200 delicate piece of machinery over, although I think that what you may really be buying is inspiration.

  • When I used to do a lot of more professional photography, I had the $5000 camera set that just made me feel like a superstar.

  • And on those really cold mornings, I would wake up, I would have to go shoot a time lapse somewhere dark somewhere code.

  • And Wendy, I'm gonna have to skip dinner sometimes.

  • And when I had this amazing piece of missionary that I just left, it made me feel awesome.

  • They're represents pretty much was best in class and point and shoot technology.

  • So there you go.

  • I hope you enjoy the review.

  • They may know your thoughts on this On the Rx 100 similar camera models.
