Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles This is the lock picking lawyer, and what I have for you today is a really interesting silver bird padlock that's on loan to me from the collection of Peter South. Now what makes it so interesting is this circular dimple core with pins coming from three different directions. Now you have seen me pick similar course in the past, like in video number 6 90 But those locks could be tension from the front. This lock tensions from a tiny little post that's all the way in the back of the corps. If we look at the key, we can see a little notch at the tip. That's what engages the post. So we are going to have to get creative with tension if we're going to open this up. Or at least we would have had to have gotten creative had Peter not already figured it out and made this tool. It fits right in the key way and has a small notch to pick up that tensioning post. Now I'm going to stop for a moment here and make an important distinction. There are many locks out there that people incorrectly believed to be difficult or impossible to pick where in reality they just require a very specific tool. It's those locks that I refer to as toolmakers challenges and not a picker's challenge. Some locks can be both, but that's not the case with this one. This silver bird falls squarely into the category of a toolmakers challenge. Let me show you why that ISS Let's stick this special tool into the key way, and we are a tension in that post on the back, and I'm just going to use one of my normal wave rakes that is the first bank of pins. Let's move on to the second bank and now the third. And we got that open. So as you saw with the right tool, this rakes opened quickly. But without Peter's clever tool, it would certainly be another story. In any case, that's all I have for you today. If you do have any questions or comments about this, please put them below.
