It's similar in concept to the locking key boxes you find secured around door knobs, but this locks into an automotive trailer hitch and is intended to secure the key to the vehicle.

Now, as a general matter, I think leaving a key with the vehicle is a poor decision, and that's because it can allow a thief to bypass the Elektronik security system.

But even if that weren't the case, this product in particular is deeply flawed, so much so that I can open this nearly as fast without the combination as I can with the combination.

But before I show you that, let's change that combination to something I don't already know.

Tow interchange mode.

We need to turn this 1/4 turn.

Then, while it's facing away for May, I'm going to scramble the wheels.

Okay, Now I'm going to cover the wheels up, place it back in operating mode, put it back into the housing and scramble those wheels one last time.

Okay, I now have a box to which I do not know the combination.

I'm going to use this thin shim of metal.

I cut it out of seven thousands feeler gauge, and you'll note there's a tiny little notch at the end.

I'm going to use that notch to grab on to a bar that rides along the back of these wheels and pull that bar into the wheels.

Once they're binding tightly, all I need to do is turn the wheels until I find a loose spot in the travel.

That loose spot is the number of the combination.

Okay, pulling on this shim and turning the wheels.

Okay, I have the last three digits and the first digit 3380 folks, it's really that easy.

So while it may be that this product does offer some convenience, I think it also introduces a significant security vulnerability.
