I get e mails asking me about these locks from people who don't realize that I already featured the mechanism inside in video number 6 31 In that video, not only did I explain how to open them, but I also drilled one apart to show the mechanism and why it's flawed.

The thing is that many people don't realize the mechanism in this lock is exactly the same as the mechanism in the model 8 75 And that's what I showed in video 6 31 So if you're interested in the house and wise of this mechanism, check out that video which I will link below.

But now let's see how quickly this can be open using no tools at all.

The first thing we're going to have to do is change the combination.

So it's not something I already know.

So I'm going to face the padlock downward with the shackle in the change possession and then randomly scrambled the wheels.

Okay.

And now that everything seems to be sufficiently scrambled will re lock it and scramble the wheels again where I can't see them.

So right now I have a padlock to which I do not know the combination.

Now we can start on anything, but I'm just going to start everything on all the zeros to make it a little easier to keep track of.

And I'm going to pull on the shackle and try to rotate each one of these wheels.

You can see there's very little movement.

If we run into a number that is the correct combination code wheel, we'll get a lot more movement.

I don't think any of them are ones.

No.

Two's no threes.

OK, the fourth wheel is a four, so we're going to advance everything but the fourth wheel.

Leave that one where it is no fives.

The first wheel is a six advanced the middle two wheels.

We're halfway there.

No sevens, no eighths and they both were nine.

So that took about as long as it decoding would take, but still very, very quickly.

So as you saw, these can be opened very quickly with very little skill, and because of that, they really shouldn't be relied upon for providing anything but a moderate deterrent.
