Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles My colleague, Micah, made these candied walnuts during the winter holidays and I fell in love with them. The spices in the sugar mixture are what make these walnuts so special. Preheat your oven to 350. Pour 2 cups of walnut halves on a lined baking sheet in a single layer. Toast them until you can smell them and they have lightly browned. This could take as little as 10 minutes or as long as 15 minutes. You're gonna want to start checking them after about 9 or 10 minutes, because they can burn quickly. Mine were done after 12 minutes. While the walnuts are toasting, melt ¼ cup of vegan margarine in a pot, then turn off the heat. Pour ½ cup of packed brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of salt, ⅛ teaspoon of nutmeg and ⅛ teaspoon of black pepper into a bowl and mix it all together. Once the walnuts are done, immediately pour them into the margarine and stir them. Then pour the margarine and walnuts into the brown sugar mixture and mix them well. Pour them on a baking sheet and let them cool. These are great alone as a snack, on top of a salad or even as a sweet addition to a savory soup. This is how Micah enjoys his candied walnuts.
