I found this via FedEx is website, which recommends you use one of these for added security when shipping high value items.

It's made to fit snugly into a FedEx medium box, and a larger one is available for FedEx large boxes.

The idea is that the combination to this lock would be transmitted separately from the center to the recipient, so no one in the transit chain would have access to the contents.

And that doesn't just include FedEx employees.

It could include the recipients, mailroom or assistant.

But the more I think about this, the more I start to believe that it doesn't add much to the package other than structural integrity and wait, you see, it doesn't do much to protect from destructive entry.

The body is fairly thin aluminum, and the box could probably be pried open with a stout screwdriver.

Now it does offer a very basic defense against covert entry.

But a competent picker could certainly defeat the key to override fairly quickly.

I have to wonder if tamper evident tape would be more effective at detecting unauthorized access.

Of course, you could put such tape directly on this box, but let me show you what it takes to pick this open.

Going to be using a little wiper insert and a standard hook in 18 thousands.
