Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles This is the lock picking lawyer. And a few days ago, in video number 8 42 I showed you this lock, which was Amazons. Choice if one searched for high security padlocks. Note. I said padlocks. Plural. Well, a few commenters went on Amazon and discovered that this lock was Amazons Choice if one searched for high security padlock. Singular. It's the century on us, a round body padlock. So I bought one for testing before I remembered that I already had one. So we actually have two of these to play with today. And folks, if there was such a thing as locked designer malpractice, these locks would be Exhibit A. It's because they have a design flaw that most lock companies fixed over 20 years ago. We can use a tool like this to reach right through the keyhole into the locking mechanism. And by turning this tool, the lock pops open. Let me show you exactly how that works, going to go through the key hole all the way back to the locking mechanism. And once it's there, simply turned the tool and the lock pops open through this one as well. Let me take one of these apart, so you can see exactly how this exploit works. Toe, open this up. We have a Phillips screw down the shackle hole, so let's take that out. Okay? If we look at this core, we can see the tail piece on the back which rotates the locking mechanism. Using this tool, we can reach all the way through the core and rotate our tool, which will in turn rotate the locking mechanism without the core ever turning. This exploit is well known to security professionals, and most locks have design features that prevent it, but not Amazons. Choice for a high security padlock. And because of this, it should not be your choice for a high security padlock. In any case, that's all I have for you today.
