Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles h] Eating old or expired food is extremely dangerous. - [Old Smokey] We do this at home but you shouldn't. (bell dinging) - All right so I got something really cool. but I need you to go grab me something that's over there. - Okay. - It's a magnet. - It's a magnet. - Yeah. Go get that and I wanna show you something. - Should I move these bowls? - Yeah get rid of those. Like we need a little bit of space. - Yeah. (upbeat music) And the magnet is? - Opposite side of the counter. Yep. Yep. Nope. Stuck on the side of the fridge. There you go. - This? Oh. All right. This is like the school magnets this is fun. - Yeah we need a good one. Wheaties are very iron enriched. - Okay. - So that means that there's actually iron in there that you consume with your cereal. - Okay. - So let's kind of look at the box and since this... We're lucky enough that this does have nutritional information on it because that's not exactly a common thing. - Right, right. - Back in 1947, you know it wasn't required. - Right. - By any means. - So on the front of this you've got your iron, it's 13% of your daily. - Daily value for one serving. - Yep, yep. - Over here, our iron 45% in one serving. - 45% in one serving! - So that's over three times the amount of iron as that. Well, you know it'll be interesting to see if there's a difference. So we have the old and we have the new. - Okay. - Start with the old and we gotta kinda, I'm just gonna use this, crush it up. (flakes crunching) Like this, okay. (suspenseful orchestra music) (flakes crunching) It's like it's not sticking at all. It's just not working with the old. - Okay. - So let's try it with the new. And we're just gonna take some of this new. (suspenseful dramatic music) (flakes crunching) Crush it up. Really crush it down there some. (flakes crunching) It's already happening. (flakes crunching) (suspenseful guitar music) So you can see there's a pretty decent piece of iron in that little flake. - [Josh] Holy cow, you're right! - [Old Smokey] So it's definitely sticking. - Magnetically. - I didn't know that there was that much enough iron in Wheaties that it would stick to a magnet. - But obviously not back in 1947. - Yeah! - Because over here, we got nothin'. So the formula has changed. - [Josh] It has. - [Old Smokey] You know? I mean, it's not a lot but it's sticking to it. - It is kind of a lot when you think about how much it takes to make it do that. - [Josh] Right, right, right. - To actually stick to a magnet. - [Josh] My goodness, that's crazy! - So, that's a interesting side note for that. - Gettin' my iron! - Get your iron, yeah! (percussion theme music)
