good morning good morning guys from sunny Seoul South Korea every day sunny
I just love it here anyways I've got an exciting episode for
you guys today because I'm gonna be going in to Tongin Market (통인시장) a traditional
Korean market fantastic Korean Street food can't wait to go there for lunch
and devour as many street food items as possible so we are heading right now
to Tongin Market (통인시장) a couple cool facts it started in 1941 exactly 75 stalls and
shops check it out can we do all of them in 75 minutes yes but what we have let's
do it
so before we get anything to eat I think we'll just take a walk through and scout
out this place so far I'm seeing a combination of food items you can buy
also some souvenirs and a little bit of street food over here there's a butcher
and they're also selling fruits and vegetables here as well I want to show
you a really cool fruit this is unique to Korea this is called a Pae it's
something in between an apple and a pear
Gamsahamnida Almeyo (How much is it?) Cheon Won (One Dollar) Gamsahamnida (Thank you) Kimchi Jeon massisseoyo (delicious) Canada Saram (I'm Canadian) Miguk Saram (He's American) Chingu (friends)
first item is one of my favorite korean street food this is kimchi-jeon 김치전
basically a kimchi Korean pancake and we saw the entire process of how it was
being made basically the lady came out she had some batter already prepared
kimchi obviously some flour and water to give it a pancake mixture to put it onto
a hot sizzling frying pan cooked it right in front of her eyes and then when
it was finished she grabbed it chopped it up with scissors and here we have it
right on the tray and how much does it cost
It's only cheon Won (1000 Won) for less than one u.s. dollar pretty amazing let's try
this here oh so good a little bit greasy hmm I love this the
best one dollar I spend in a long time I'm going in for two oh I love that I
thought just kimchi I think there's been some onions and other things put in it
spicy savory and greasy it's got everything I like Gamsahamnida ah ah thank
you guys we're got of new subscribers of that these kids are awesome
check out all the different kinds of kimchi there how long here incredible
selection Wow okay guys next up is Chakgam gimbap and there's an English
sign that also says good gimbap so I'm very excited for this
it came wrapped in a tin foil roll here and check out this these are long skinny
rolls I believe it's mostly vegetarian I'm not
sure if there's any meat in there I see carrots I see cucumber I see something
that might be a pickled radish and of course there's rice and then we have the
seaweed on the outside so the other thing love to do is to try it let's try
this here all the vegetables ingredients has so fresh I can follow that with just
world this morning oh my gosh that's so good so much better than the one we got
from the store which is more processed delicious man you know there I don't
think there's no meat it's just vegetarian roll but my goodness it's so
tasty it's still nice having those vegetables and then anytime I get to
have seaweed with rice GameChanger man it's just love that hurts home one for
For cheon Won for one thousand Won you can pick up one of these and what a deal delicious Korean food
it guys right here in Seoul South Korea
next up is Tteokbokki you guys one of my favorite korean street foods it is
basically these long skinny rice cakes covered in a gochujang red pepper paste
sauce just again hmm oh wow this is a bit different than the kind I've had before
me there's some the sauce is kind of dried has caked on a bit to the rice
cake oh my gosh is it delicious the rice cakes are so soft
spicy Cheongmal Massisseyo (very delicious) know some people watching us masiseoyo
Spicy all done I'm loving you going to Korea we've gotta try Tteokbokki
classic classic Korean Street food all right here in Seoul what do you
think of the Tteokbokki dude oh my gosh man it's one of the best things on the
planet I mean let me get one more or two more here yeah just like look at that
red and greasy red and greens doing good I can eat that like any time of day I
get out of that breakfast lunch dinner snack midnight snack 3:00 in the morning
snack you know they say what's up when it goes in spicy it also comes out it's
not spicy pineapple salsa guys the feast just keeps coming on we're next having
Dak Kang Jang which is basically fried chicken with the sweet and sour
sauce so I asked if it was a meiyoyo (spicy) why laughter if it was spicy they said no
look at this guys you got a toothpick Oh smells so good and greasy
oh dude that sauce is unreal sweet-and-sour crispy on the outside
tender in the middle I mean that chicken is really juicy it's a popcorn chicken
keep popping in your mouth gotta go for one more Wow hey you know
what's amazing it comes in this little cup just bite-sized snack size so don't
get too full from it I love about street food in Korea price is so reasonable the
portions are small I mean that you could have such diversity in one meal you can
go around spend like ten dollars to ten different items okay guys next up we're
getting maybe one of the cheapest items you can find in terms of korean street
food it's called Odeng and you get these basically it's a fish it's a fish
cake that is on a skewer and it only costs 500 Won which is like 50 US cents a
little bit less than that I'll show you what it looks like this is the entire
piece of it right here you've also got a little bit of soup at
the bottom it's like a gook it's a clear broth and so that's really tasty so
basically what you do to eat it just pick it up like this oh wow ooh piping hot
whoa oh it's over it's hot pot right mmm yeah it's the kind of thing
that you would typically find in a hot pot as part of like a spongy fish cake
texture that's how I would describe it mildly fishy but a very good very good
hmm mom cuz it comes with a heart kind of gook of soup it's perfect this would
actually be better on a winter's day than a summers day and you drink it I
can drink it nice light satisfying broth a little bit salty if there's a Shikae
Shikae Korean rice juice oh it looks so nice we're gonna try that Masuda are not soda out very very
natural natural nice to meet you have a nice day this is a Shikae mash
isseyo basically what Shikae is it's a it's a Korean rice drink or you can
see the actual rice granules you see the rice the floating right there Oh even
better it's a homemade right Wow you drink it every day
yeah in the summer yeah Dulpyeong juseyo duljang
is the more such day smooth Lucy this is a not nice very good for you it is refresh it's
very it's a good deep your health yeah sure keep your help yeah okay so
next up cool down a little bit we have a traditional Korean drink called Shikae
it's basically like a rice drink it's refreshing it's homemade it's a little
bit milky and consistency but you can see that there's rice granules and it's
a sweet drink - very refreshing in the summer months I'm gonna try that oh it
tastes the homemade quality so refreshing so sweet you know what David
I think it's gonna remind you of the sugar cane juice we were having in India
it's perfect cuz I've been eating so many spicy things this market is getting
crowded it's a little bit stuffy at the moment so to have a drink like this
perfect and the price is Cheon Won 1000 Won so again the street food tour in Korea
has been super affordable most items are only one dollar or less Gul Hotteok
Honey hotteok dulgae juseyo on there
that's very good That is like a hot cake dude
all right and to finish things off we've got a classic Korean Street food dessert
we have Hotteok it is like a Korean pancake and this one is filled with gul
honey in Korean is called Gul piping piping hot it was just deep-fried right
in front of us it smells so good dude I smell the honey yeah I'm gonna attempt
to eat it oh honey bit of cinnamon in the middle so so
tasty mmm oh man look at this open a knock out the
sweetness inside of there check out the honey got some pine nuts in there you
got sweet tooth - this is the thing that you need to go for in Korea don't worry
about the calories it's tons
in program and one of the best things as I it's only tone one one US dollar for
one of these super tasty you guys like Hotteok and we've got a group of boys
who are interested in what we're doing so good thanks guys
have a good day I can't stop eating this is so tasty what's the best Korean
dessert it's my favorite cream dessert street food syrupy goodness
oh man so happy to be back in Korea eating Hotteok guys Hotteok
overall man what a Korean Street food extravaganza that was what a tour I
loved everything I think my favorite thing dude I'll tell you is a spicy rice cakes
yeah you know what same here to be honest that's the classic that's right
here don't best of the Tteokbokki but we're here oh my gosh

it's an amazing time here in the tongin market (통인시장) a traditional market lots of street
food yeah good and you really had experienced that you know almost no
tourists here I mean there's no tourists it still like folks locals it's like
school kids and that's what's so awesome about it there are some Street food
