two locals show us around during our time in Hyderabad Saliesh and Rakesh and on this particular morning we met at Minerva cafe where we ate vada a savory fried lentil donut Dona upma a semolina dish with vegetables and chilies Pongal a rice lentil dish served with sambar and chutney puri a puffed up hall of flatbread paired with curry food Uttapam a savory pancake that's a bit thicker than a dosa and full of nuts and vegetables and lastly Minerva's specialty coffee which is served with milk no sugar and yet it has a natural sweetness to it so let's jump into the South Indian breakfast feast and then we'll take you to visit Golconda fort which once stored the world-famous Koh-i-Noor diamond within its walls good morning good morning guys greetings from Hyderabad India today is a very special day we're gonna be visiting a place called Minerva coffee shop and it's one of the most famous places you can get breakfast in the city of Hyderabad Oh Minerva coffee shop is one of the most reputed places in Hyderabad it has been serving breakfast in almost 29 years and these people love it over here because of the quality of food and you know the variety and the taste so if you like you know one of the best places in town so this one is the main branch over here is the first branch and it's been expanding ever since awesome let's go on and have some really good food so excited we're trying something for the very first time as Vada these are made with the lentil paste and they're a savory doughnut apparently there is true staple at this restaurant oh I'm just gonna break that bad boy in half look at that looks incredible so there's a number of different chutneys you can try some of them are like this coconut your sambal there's ones that are spicy just one that's peanut based so I think I'm gonna go for a peanut base dunk it in oh oh my gosh so crispy on the outside fluffy a kind of light taste to it combined with that sauce it's delicious so neat to be having savory doughnuts because I usually associate doughnuts with a as a sweet dish mmm so good I should mention that this restaurant that's been open since 1987 is a vegetarian only restaurant next up I am gonna try it in the coconut Wow look I'll pick that coconut is oh don't my gosh anything with coconut is an instant win for me one of my favorite chutneys for sure so now trying this with the Sambal apparently he's supposed to dip it in here for quite a while let it soak so it's lentil and tomato based oh it tastes a little good it just soaks it up it's very liquidy and the last one for me to try is a spicy sauce whoa whoa oh wow oh those will sweep as a sweet and spicy sauce let's quite potent them I love this right first time trying it and it's an instant hit with my taste buds alright your guys turn to try it we're on the outside and soft inside I love it love it you guys have a favorite chutney yeah it's got a lot of kick well how about for you if you have a favorite chutney yeah my favorite Japanese the girl not one okay it's often creamy I'm not that spicy so I think that's good enough for a start in the morning well I really like that one - that's the first one I actually tried so the second dish of our self Indian breakfast food tour is upma and this is made with semolina as you can see it's been kind of molded into a round paste here and it also features vegetables I can see chilies here onions and carrots so yeah I'm just gonna get after it in a dissect it here a bit so you guys can see what it looks like check out this time for my first bite guys really excited about this and again with any South Indian dish especially breakfast items you've got your variety of chutney so there's a peanut one a couple spicy ones here and the coconut so I really like the peanut well actually I like the Kamal to be honest I really like peanut one especially so I'm gonna try it with that first don't can you good oh wow that's still good it reminds me of polenta it just has that same consistency like the semolina is very fine alright now they try one of this place it once this spicy sauce I love it's kind of sweet and spicy that gives a lot more kick Wow this place it's hitting me hard hitting me hard in the morning alright dude I think we've both found a winner the second dish we're in love this upma so good so good huh oh it's incredible it's really just like polenta the best part is this ginger chutney put that on top and he just paid it into me today I love it love it the great thing about it it's a spine grain realize the little vegetables throughout yeah a little bit of peanuts in there green chili for the ginger chutney not standing you know what's incredible is when you have with all these different chutneys it like it's almost like you're having like three or four different dishes because every every one changes the flavor yeah I mean that's the best part about it right yeah yeah it's just clear United State one flavor throughout yeah you're eating like three four we have like five right there oh yeah and you can mix and match it to your preference you're actually just mixed together yeah coconut and the ginger oh it's like sweet and spicy so next up is Pongal and if it looks familiar to the last dish it's because it is shaped like the last dish so it comes with steamed rice featuring lentils also has cracked pepper and curry leaves I can tell already that's a lot more dense than the last one that tasted like polenta so I've got a little piece here and my spoon he's gonna try it with the peanut sauce which is always a winner love that chutney sauce that's awesome so good hmm this also has nuts right yeah oh wow I really enjoyed the nuts in them it's definitely thicker and it's uh it's got a nice savory taste it just combines very well with the sauces next one I'm gonna be trying the spicy ginger sauce which has become one of my favorites when I'm not choking on it what I know what I think for this particular dish and I actually prefer this place eat ginger sauce I think it goes even better together all right so next up is puri which is basically a puffed up flatbread it's made with wheat and it's cooked in deep fried oil so what I'm gonna do is tear off a piece like this oh I forgot to mention it comes with two different curries they're not chutneys this time so we've got a vegetable curry and a potato mash so I'm going to try to vegetable one first nice thing is that you can just put it right in the center kind of roll it up like this and then just pop it in your mouth oh wow how did delicious vegetable crime this is delicious like these curries are a bit more filling than the chutneys so even though the curry itself isn't filling the amount of curry you get makes it rolling so you could turn this into into a meal for sure the biggest puri I've ever had I love the vegetable curry it's a little spicy it's really rich in flavors you make into a taco brought it up there we go pop it oh the flavors are just unreal I could eat this at any time of day what about you did everyday everyday anytime are they yeah last but not least we're having Uttapam and this is known a savory pancake from South India it has a lot of different ingredients you've got cashew nuts you've got onions you've got curry leaves you've got carrots it looks absolutely fantastic I can break off a nice piece and it comes with typical chutneys and curry so you've got the coconut chutney over here you've got the vegetable curry you've got the peanut based chutney and then you have the ginger so let's go for some ginger let's go for some spice start it off I really like this pancake the savory pancake it's got a lot of vegetables it's nice trying something a little bit thicker too so yeah if you're in the mood for something a little bit more filling a little bit more satisfying you'll probably want to order this pancake it's dense it's thick the other thing I should mention is that is cooked in ghee and that makes it gives an extra special flavor it's really delicious no man we're gonna finish things off with the coffee which is absolutely perfect because you know it's gonna help wake this up and I need my coffee of my morning right yeah don't get my chai or my coffee I get cranky so I'm gonna try this one decent amount of milk and apparently there's no sugar so it's gonna be interesting to try Oh piping hot oh it's got a richness milkiness to it it's got a little bit of natural sweetness to just subtle that's a really good cup of coffee I can see why people come here for that so the South Indian breakfast was delicious I loved how many different savory options there was in fact there was nothing really sweet which is fascinating it's a great way to start the day I loved all the different variety and now we're gonna move on and check out an attraction for a bit after that feast of a breakfast we all got in the car together and drove all Golconda Fort for a tour this Fort is located about 11 kilometers outside of Hyderabad and it's one of the city's top attractions breakfast foods so good and the problem is like every dish she gets there like the first issue like Wow and you just you have too many bites so the next is too many bites and then my third dish you're done and we had six or seven dishes I know how many we have fire sick wife was the coffee I'm stuffed So Golconda Fort has a history of more than 400 years and then it was built another coat of Shahi dynasty and Golkonda Fort the name itself says that the fort is round in shape I mean the land or the fort encompassing that area is round that's why gol is the name cona is nothing but a hill so this is a round fort on top of a hill and this place is pretty much known for its diamond trade and all they have a lot of merchants there was a bazaar inside the fort where a lot of merchants all across India would comment rate their diamonds the world famous Kohinoor diamond is also said to be from the Golconda fort I forgot to mention the price of coming here it's 300 rupees for foreigners and 25 for locals got my ticket here and I actually thought the entrance to go in here is gonna be much sooner it took quite a while to walk here and that's just a testament to how big this place is is absolutely massive to give you a bit more information Golconda fort dates back to the 16th century and it's considered to be one of the finest strongholds in India it was built atop a hundred and twenty meter high granite Hill offering a wide vantage point so any approaching enemies could be spotted this fort was constructed to be impenetrable the gates were studded with iron spikes to stop war elephants from breaking them down its water pipeline was well concealed so that their supply would not be interrupted during a siege and its advanced acoustics system meant that even the smallest sound as entry gates would echo across the whole complex wildest security while the city of golconda was known for its diamond trade and many diamonds and gems were sold here from the nearby mines the famous quarry nor diamond which is believed to have come from the coal ore mines on the south bank of the river Krishna was even stored within the walls of the Golconda fort at one time hi guys welcome to go GolKonda Fort enough for this is a fort which has a more than 400 year old history with it and then this fort was developed and built acoustically in the olden days so it's such that when you get on inside a dome and then you clap you can hear the sound way in the top so that's a way of giving a signaling to the soldiers of the fort so this technology was used as a way of communication yes that's that was a way of signaling back then well so yeah you can actually experience that once you climb upstairs that's incredible a way to do that to climb up to the top of golconda fort was long and sweaty but very much worth it for the views we got to enjoy in the end my one big tip is to bring lots of water so you can stay hydrated definitely burning off my breakfast this morning to reach the top of the fort you need to walk 360 steps we haven't be able to put our cameras down since you come here huh no we haven't stopped we haven't something photos and video incredible yeah I mean it's huge and I mean basically what you have to do is decline 360 steps you get all the way to the top once you here the temple once you get to the temple take your shoes that's like how you doing every Hindu temple you can never walking with shoes so yeah so once you enter there's more boulders there's some paintings in the bottom very bright colors some Hindu gods and then you keep going up you have these huge two boulders yeah in the middle is connected by a pole with jewelry I guess people giving offerings and then over here it's colored an orange and this is the street Maha Kali temple this is great I mean another great day here in Hyderabad like totally awesome the thing that I thought was really cool about the fort as you're walking around you get so many different vantage points you get some great views of the city and just as you look down you can get a different perspective of different areas of the fort that you don't see when you're climbing up for sure I have look I have right now 650 photos dude you've been on it even I know let's go so that concludes our incredible South Indian food breakfast tour and we also got to visit this amazing site what a wonderful morning I have these two gentlemen to thank for it thank you very much guys thank
