  • Today we are exploring a difficult sound.

  • The R sound.

  • Specifically, we are looking at words that haven't are sound at the beginning or middle of the word road Run, arrive, Arrest.

  • Many English learners have a hard time with this sound.

  • Sometimes they make a trilling sound instead of an R sound.

  • Dr.

  • Arrived, Run, Run!

  • The thing about the r sound is that you should be able to hold it.

  • You're If you try to make it incorrectly, you probably won't be able to hold it.

  • So how can you make the R sound?

  • First, bring the corners of your lips in and then bring the lips away from the face.

  • Then pull back your tongue a little bit and raise it in the middle.

  • The front of your tongue goes down, but it isn't touching anything inside your mouth.

  • Rock rock.

  • If you are having trouble feeling these specific parts of your tongue, you can use a mirror and ah lollypop.

  • Be sure to be careful when you do this.

  • Don't use the candy to forcefully look in the mirror and touch the back sides of your tongue with the lollipop.

  • Feel the places where the lollypop touches.

  • These are the places you want to raise up when you make an R sound.
