Today we are exploring a difficult sound.

The R sound.

Specifically, we are looking at words that haven't are sound at the beginning or middle of the word road Run, arrive, Arrest.

Many English learners have a hard time with this sound.

Sometimes they make a trilling sound instead of an R sound.

Arrived, Run, Run!

The thing about the r sound is that you should be able to hold it.

You're If you try to make it incorrectly, you probably won't be able to hold it.

So how can you make the R sound?

First, bring the corners of your lips in and then bring the lips away from the face.

Then pull back your tongue a little bit and raise it in the middle.

The front of your tongue goes down, but it isn't touching anything inside your mouth.

Rock rock.

If you are having trouble feeling these specific parts of your tongue, you can use a mirror and ah lollypop.

Be sure to be careful when you do this.

Don't use the candy to forcefully look in the mirror and touch the back sides of your tongue with the lollipop.

Feel the places where the lollypop touches.

These are the places you want to raise up when you make an R sound.
