Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles surprise hi it's Jennifer and Claire and we are here to start off our 15 days of 15 free lessons to celebrate 15 years at Tarle Speech and language so our word today is surprise and to say this word correctly we're going to think about two syllables we're gonna start with sa with that schwa sound that short uh sa and then we're going to end with prize PR i z prize so would you do this lips together your tongue is ready for the R while you have your lips together tongue is either pointing down or flip back just do not touch your teeth and then when you open your lips you're gonna make them into a square tense shape and that's going to help you say the R pr pr pr and then you're gonna move to the I and you're gonna do that by opening wide and then smiling and end with the Z zzz to do this your tongue is not touching your teeth the tip of your tongue is either down or right behind your top front teeth and the air is going to keep moving while your voice box is on surprise surprise I do hear people saying surprise but because so many of my students struggle with the R sound I say just skip it and say sa prize surprise now you may be asking what if I add the e D or the s to these words so if you're going to do that all we're going to do is add a D sound to surprised and to do that say the Z and then touch the tip of the tongue to the back of the top front teeth for the D then if you add an S the suffix s we are actually going to say is an add an entirely new syllable sa prizes so let's try those all surprise surprised surprises so we just want to say thank you all for all of your support over the years I just can't thank you enough I really appreciate each and every one of you thank you so much and be sure that you subscribe so that you don't miss any of our 15 free lessons this month thank you so much take care bye you have another surprise show us Claire we lost two from teeth in our house Claire is waiting for her new teeth to come in so that is another surprise what do you say everyone give them a cheese
