Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles - [Narrator] Racism is treating people unfairly just because of the color of their skin. That's wrong and unfair. Let me try to explain. I remember a time when some kids were pretending to play superheroes. - [Girl] Look at my cape! - [Narrator] Sounds like fun, right? - [Girl] (laughing) Woo hoo! Oh, I'll choose the pink one. - [Narrator] Each kid knew exactly which superhero they wanted to be. - Yay! - Come on, let's go! - I'm gonna catch you. - (grunts) I'm the strongest in the world. (laughing) - [Blonde Girl] Fly to the sky! (evil laughing) - (laughs) You're so fast. - [Narrator] Well, two kids wanted to be the same superhero. Kevin turned to Brandon and said, "You can't be a superhero. "Superheroes are supposed to be white." That made Brandon feel confused, and angry, sad. (laughing) Racism hurts, and it's wrong. But Brandon thinks superheroes can come in all skin colors. Making a judgment based on the color of a person's skin is unfair and wrong. (laughing) So Brandon stood like a superhero and said, "I could be any superhero. "My superhero is black." - [Blonde Girl] Oh man, cool! - [Brunette Girl] Another superhero. - [Narrator] His friend stood up and declared, "Superheroes can be any color." - [Brandon] Haha. (grunts) Haha! (cheering) - [Blonde Girl] Yay, superheroes! - [Brandon] All right. - I'm sorry, you're right. Superheroes can be any color. Let's play! - [Brandon] Yeah! (cheering) - [Narrator] It's important to help children feel empowered and become upstanders for themselves and one another.
