Everybody knows Virginia is the smartest state in the nation. Well I'm going to show you how because it's time for part 22 of our 50-part series: Better Know A Ballot. Tonight, the greatest state in the nation: Virginia! "The Votin' Virginians!" What makes Virginia the greatest? Well did you know Virginia is known as the mother of presidents, because it is the birthplace of eight U.S. presidents? Like any mother, obviously Virginia doesn't have a favorite, but she does have a least favorite. I'm looking at you William Henry Harrison. Not wearing a coat in cold weather? Who raised you? Another fun fact: Virginia is one of just 50 states that have been selected to vote in this year's presidential election. So here's how you can get started voting in Virginia right now. This is general information for how you can vote early and by mail. Check out betterknowaballot.com for more information on all the links you need. The link for Virginia is below. Okay first make sure you're registered to vote. You can register online; just use our link. The deadline is October 13th, but do it now. Once you're registered, you can request an absentee ballot online; just use our link to get there. Ballot requests must be received by October 23rd, but if you want to make sure to get your ballot in on time, do it now. Now when you get your ballot, fill it out carefully, sign where indicated and mail it to the address on the envelope. You can also hand deliver your ballot to a secure dropbox location; use our link to find one near you. Okay your ballot must be hand delivered or postmarked by 7pm on November 3rd, so the U.S. Postal Service recommends mailing it no later than October 27th, but play it safe and do it right away. Or, if you want to vote in person, you can vote early at your local registrar's office from September 18th through October 31st.
