  • In previous videos, I talked about the differences between the, uh Aw, and oh, sounds.

  • We are going to continue exploring these sounds by thinking about the letter o the letter O is difficult for many people learning English.

  • Imagine you see three words all spelled with the letter O Mother.

  • Mom Motor, Did you hear the differences?

  • Mother has the ah vowel sound.

  • Mom has the ah vowel sound and motor has the O vowel sound.

  • You might be wondering what you can do to correctly pronounce words that are spelled with the letter O.

  • Unfortunately, there is no simple answer.

  • But there are three helpful things you can do.

  • First, you need to memorize the pronunciation and spelling of words that you commonly use.

  • For example, if you talk about your family Ah, lot, you need to pay careful attention to the vowel sound words such as son, brother, mother, cousin all have the, uh, sound second practice listening to native speakers.

  • For example, you have heard me make the ah ah aw and oh, sounds many times in this video.

  • But any time you watch a film or show, you can try to listen for each of thes sounds, too.

  • Finally, if you are not sure about a word, try to look it up in the dictionary.
