Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles hi everyone jennifer from tarle speech with your pronunciation question today's question is how do i say the word swat to hit sweat perspiration sweet sugary and switch to change so the focus of the lesson is mainly on the vowels but we are going to talk about the beginning and the ends of the words briefly so to say these words correctly we're going to start with that sw swat so to do this you are going to have your tongue either behind your top front teeth or pointing down then you are going to move smoothly from that s ssss to a pucker for the w sw sw sw you don't want to say sa woo you don't want to open your mouth that's going to add that extra vowel there and we don't want that also if you do tend to start with that e before your s sound at the beginning you're going to want to just make sure that that air is moving out for the s all right so now for the vowels we're going to think about this from moving from the most open to the least open so we have a e i ee so you can see my mouth opens more as i go up and it closes as i go down my list so to say that a sound wide open circle tongue is going to be lowest in the mouth ah next we're going to move to that short e sound your mouth closes a little bit and as your mouth closes your tongue moves up so we have a e i ih is the middle of the mouth your mouth is relaxed and your tongue again moves up a bit and then e is the highest and the flattest with your tongue and your mouth is smiling so again ee i e a some people get confused with the spelling here for sweat typically e a is pronounced the long e but here it is pronounced the short e and then to end the words most of them end with a t sound t and to do that touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth and the air gently explodes out and that is the ending for swat and sweat and sweet but for the word switch you're going to start by touching the teeth and then pull your tongue back for that ch sound switch and the ch sound we actually have it spelled with three letters here tch but it's only one sound the ch so let's try all these words swat swat swat sweat sweat sweat switch switch switch and sweet sweet sweet so give it a try i know people are going to notice the difference if you found this helpful we'd love a like a share and a subscribe check out our products on google play itunes and all of our classes at tarle speech thanks everyone
