  • Hello, Ladies and gentlemen, this is Elliot from E t j english dot com.

  • Helping you become a fluent English speaker.

  • I recently did a poll on Twitter.

  • Andi, I wanted you guys to decide out of three options.

  • What video to do next for my YouTube channel on the one with the number one votes was a listening practice.

  • Now, I recently did a listening practice video about how I met my girlfriend on today.

  • I'm going to do something slightly similar.

  • The reason why this is good for you on the reason why I think you voted for this is because it's a chance for you toe understand natural every day, English.

  • You're just going to listen to me talk.

  • And if you have any questions, anything you don't understand any words that confuse you.

  • You can just comment in the box below and I will respond to you now.

  • Also, I will provide a transcript in the description box below so you can read along while I speak.

  • If you would like Thio.

  • So let's begin the story today.

  • I'm talking about my weekend now.

  • This weekend was a bank holiday in England now a bank holiday is also known as a long weekend on in a long weekend you get your usual weekend, which is Saturday on Sunday.

  • Onda.

  • We also get an extra day off.

  • We get the Monday off as well, so schools are closed on the Monday on.

  • A lot of people don't work on the Monday This is not the case for me because I have my own business and I choose when I work.

  • So I spent the weekend working, but it's not the only thing I did.

  • Now the reason for these bank holidays, They happen.

  • Let's say every every couple months in England, we get them every now and then on.

  • But it's generally a chance for us to kind of celebrate a historical event, maybe a battle that happened years and years ago in England or something to do with our country.

  • Onda.

  • We get the day off on a Monday to celebrate, or it can just be for a random reason.

  • Ah, lot of people spend these bank holidays.

  • They use them as an excuse to get drunk to party.

  • You have the extra day to recover from a hangover if you drink too much, so a lot of people use this bank holiday as an excuse to party.

  • I'm not much of a drinker myself.

  • I don't drink much alcohol.

  • So this wasn't the case for me.

  • I tried to get tickets to a festival for the weekend.

  • Andi.

  • They sold out in seconds.

  • I had no chance.

  • So I didn't get the tickets to the festival.

  • So the closest I could get to being there was by watching it on the TV.

  • So I spent Saturday and Sunday watching my favorite bands perform at this festival on the TV, wishing I was there.

  • My girlfriend and I did some work while we were watching this or weekend on.

  • We just generally relaxed.

  • We had a few glasses of wine on.

  • Just had a very relaxing weekend on the Monday which was the extra day that we have off.

  • I went to my parents house.

  • Andi, they have been begging me to come around for quite a while now because they love my cooking.

  • They wanted me to cook a Thai green curry.

  • It s o.

  • I cooked my mom, my dad, my sister, my girlfriend on myself.

  • I cooked us all a lovely Thai green curry.

  • Now this is my specialty because I learned how to cook Thai food.

  • I went on a cooking course while I was in Thailand about three years ago.

  • So my family love this.

  • They love this food.

  • It's beautiful summer time at the moment in England, which doesn't last long.

  • So us British people.

  • When the sun comes out, we have to make the most of it.

  • So we sit outside in our gardens as much as we can.

  • We lie in the sun, even if it's not that warm and try and get a tan.

  • The only problem with the summertime in England is a lot of people like me suffer from a thing called hay fever on hay.

  • Fever is it's it's from the pollen.

  • You might know what pollen is or you might not, but it's what the bees, you know when the bees go on the plants and they suck up the the pollen on.

  • But basically it gets up my nose, and a lot of people have allergies to this, and we call it hay fever.

  • So you suffer from runny nose or blocks nose sneezing, itchy eyes on coughing.

  • Although I was having a lot of fun outside in the British summer.

  • I still suffer from hay fever, so I spend most of my time sneezing Andi struggling to breathe.

  • But that's the sacrifice you've got to take.

  • If you want to enjoy the sun in England, I think you do get this in other countries.

  • I don't know if you've heard of hay fever before, but that's essentially what it iss on.

  • This is a sufferer off hay fever A Z.

  • You could tell I might sound a little bit bummed up.

  • My nose is blocked, so I might be talking a little bit funny.

  • I'm trying to spend as much time with my family as possible at the moment because I'm actually moving to Thailand next month.

  • I'm flying to Thailand on I'm moving there with my girlfriend on.

  • The reason for this is because I work on mine so I can work from wherever I want on my favorite country is Thailand, so I'm going to live there for a few months on carry on the E.

  • T.

  • J English campaign and keep everyone interested.

  • But from another country on, I'm going to create some really interesting videos for you involving my travels just to make it a bit mawr exciting.

  • You can learn English through travel, which I think is going to be great.

  • So, yes, that was my bank holiday weekend in England.
