  • Hello, Minnesota! I'm Stephen Colbert. Do you want to vote in the 2020 election?

  • Of course you do! Everybody knows Minnesota is the

  • smartest state in the nation. Well I'm going to show you how because

  • it's time for part six of our 50-part series:

  • Better Know A Ballot. Tonight, the greatest state in the nation: Minnesota!

  • "The Votin' Minnesotans!" What makes Minnesota the greatest? Well

  • did you know Minnesota is a medical innovator?

  • In 1952, the first open heart surgery was performed at the University of Minnesota,

  • and new causes for that surgery are pioneered every year at the Minnesota

  • State Fair. Another fun fact: Minnesota is just one

  • of 50 states that have been selected to vote in this

  • year's presidential election. So here's how you can get started voting in

  • Minnesota right now. This is general information

  • for how you can vote early and by mail. Check out

  • betterknowaballot.com for more information on

  • all the links you need. The link for your state is below.

  • First, make sure you're registered to vote. You can register online; just use

  • our link. The deadline is October 13th, so do it

  • now. Once you're registered, you can request

  • your absentee ballot online through the Minnesota Secretary of State's website.

  • Again, you can just use our link to get there. Request your ballot as soon as

  • possible, or there's a chance your ballot won't

  • arrive in time for you to send it back and have your vote counted,

  • so do it now. When you get your ballot, fill it out carefully and sign where indicated.

  • Due to a court ruling, mail-in ballots must now be received by 8pm on election day,

  • so if you haven't already mailed in your ballot, hand deliver it to your local election office

  • or an official drop box near you instead. Go to our website to find out hours and locations!

  • If you want to vote in person, Minnesota's early in-person

  • voting opens September 18th, and runs until 5pm on November 2nd.

  • Head to your county election office's website for information,

  • and even if you're not registered yet, you can vote early with a proof of

  • residence. Wear a mask, wash your hands, go vote.

  • So there you are Minnesota. Know another smart Minnesotan who wants to vote?

  • Send them this video, and spread the word using the hashtag #betterknowaballot.

  • So go vote Minnesota! America needs you. Just think of our democracy as hot dish,

  • and you're the tater tots! What would we have without you? Just a

  • mess of ground beef and... cheese and... cream of mushroom soup! Who

  • would want that at a potluck? Probably me. It sounds delicious.

  • Good luck!
