  • be as a real talk.

  • We give you the quotes you give us the Emojis to react to them.

  • First up, the Rockets introduced new head coach Stephen Silas yesterday at a press conference.

  • Here is what he had to say about expectations heading into next season as a first time coach.

  • Take a listen.

  • Me being my first head coaching experience and being in a wind now situation, that's great.

  • I'm a win now, Coach Biz.

  • Do you think that is B.

  • S a real talk, huh?

  • Their radio?

  • Because James Harden and Russell what others?

  • What else are you doing?

  • You're not rebuilding like they're going for it.

  • And, uh, you know, it really reminds me of when I went to Memphis.

  • Like I had Zebo and Mark and Mike and Tony Island and Vince Carter.

  • These dudes like we gotta go eso he understands that.

  • I mean, Stephen saw this was born in the basketball, Joe, like his dad, probably was giving birth in the basketball gym.

  • So this guy gets it.

  • He understands that he's got the temperament.

  • I think he's gonna fit in perfect with those guys.

  • And he is absolutely right.

  • It is a win now.

  • Situation?

  • Absolutely.

  • Yeah.

  • Just He said it.

  • All right there.

  • James Harden.

  • Westbrook.

  • What else you gonna dio?

  • Guys is on the other side of 30.

  • Now they're looking for someone to championship.

  • I mean, you can't go in there unless you're trying to trade James Harden.

  • Its When now.

  • Yeah.

  • I mean, well, look, First of all, let me speak for your pregnant wife and all women everywhere.

  • Paul Silas did not birth that baby.

  • No.

  • No.

  • So he was, I think he paid.

  • He was witnessed while she was there.

  • Radio.

  • My wife reminds me that all the time, But you are absolutely right that he is.

  • I keep saying on the show for a few weeks now.

  • I think he is as experienced as it is possible to be as a first time head coach.

  • Obviously grew up in the game, but then put in more than 20 years of his own work as a scout assistant.

  • Every I mean, this guy has been everywhere.

  • Done everything, worked with so many big names.

  • So even though he's a first year head coach, that is 100% real.

  • Talk to me because he is ready to win now.

  • And as you guys point out, he has to win.

  • Now, that's kind of the That's why the other guy isn't sitting in that seat anymore.

  • Moving on the MBA has, as we've said, decided on a December 22nd start.

  • But last week, before it was official, someone did ask Damian Lillard on Twitter about his thoughts.

  • And here is what he responded with.

  • Quote If that gets my summer off, season back, L O.

  • L and Paul.

  • I have heard a bunch of players saying that they're willing tohave that quick December start in exchange for the summer off.

  • Is it be us a real talk that that's really that important to guys?

  • Of course.

  • Back on schedule, I mean, you've been playing in this schedule pretty much your whole life.

  • So since you started basketball, we play in the fall and winter and we're off in the summer.

  • It's real talk.

  • You want your summers off.

  • You enjoy that moment where you could relax, you know, take some time off after a long Greg are tough season.

  • Yeah, well, it's gotta be 100 because who wants the vacation in the fall?

  • Like everybody wants to go to the B unless you unless you live in out.

  • If you live in that, it is different.

  • But I'm just saying that you wanna be on the beach and enjoy yourself.

  • But also, you know, I think the Dodgers air fine with their vacations, right?

  • I'm sure they're happy, but But I also think a lot if you didn't learn anything from the bubble, these guys, their dad.

  • Yeah, and then in the family schedule is usually summer times off.

  • And so I know a lot of these guys want to make sure that they get every minute they can with their kids because they know the grind of the season.

  • So I think it's 100 that he's saying that.

  • And look, I bring up Major League Baseball.

  • Just because they do it doesn't mean that the basketball players think they want to do it right.

  • And it is something I have heard frankly, more than I thought I would.

  • I thought it kind of wouldn't matter because any season is basketball season.

  • But it really has made a big difference to a lot of guys and again their kids, and it's some guys the only chance to go back to their homes because they're playing in other markets.

  • Of course, during the rest of the year last up, John Wall joined one of our faves, No Chill Gil Gilbert Arenas on his podcast, saying he feels players in today's MBA are too friendly with each other.

  • All right, so fizzes John Wall saying guys were too friendly.

  • B s a real tough.

  • Well, I've been talking to the truth over here, so I'm gonna give him I'm gonna change my answer to what it was because I was gonna do like this.

  • Wasn't sure, because I say that John Wall slapping some fives before too.

  • But I ain't gonna call you out, John.

  • I think playing with guys like this can impact you.

  • But I do think that we live in a different time than they did thes guys play au ball.

  • If you live in Florida, California, somehow these guys all know each other when they was like, 15, 14 years old.

  • You know, these guys are on social media together, every everything that they do, they're involving and interacting with other guys from other teams now and now, with the movement of black lives, matter and their social consciousness.

  • It's hard toe Nazi friendships being built.

  • But at the end of the day, I just think as an athlete you should be able to compartmentalize it and still compete like you don't know a guy Once that ball goes up, no matter how friendly you may be for John Wall, that's 100 after my tutelage.

  • That's just That's just how it was your student.

  • E was your approach.

  • I mean, we're cool, but just not right now.

  • That's what gave me my edge, though.

  • And that's what gives John Wall his edge.

  • Listen, you fall your teammate pick you up, I'll let you later.

  • You know, I don't know you right up after the game waken go dinner, do all this as long as I want.

  • But if we lost them, I'm gonna tell the house and you know how patent them.

  • We're in my studio.

  • That was like no socializing pre game off the court, no socializing pre game on the court.

  • Like if you went up after the game, he it was just like just don't go there.

  • E one after the e get everything way out, way away all out, by the way.

  • First of all, who again?

  • He's one.

  • I'm from D.

  • C.

  • I have great affinity for John Wall.

  • But, John, I'm gonna call you out a little bit because you are saying this right after he does a practice run with Kevin Durant.

  • He was with Kevin Durant when he was in the room making those comments.

  • He was with James Harden just a couple weeks earlier.

  • So if you're not French on the summer, we play against each other.

  • Okay?

  • You say when you get to the gang gang Okay?

  • Okay.

  • Then I will add, Paul, despite you feeling the way you say you feel which I totally buy, have coverage you when you play.

  • I know you had that edge in that attitude.

  • Even you would go against KG in your later years.

  • It's not going to stop being friends.

  • Oh, no way.

  • One together.

  • And by the way, Pat Riley and I, you are absolutely 100% right.

  • But the friendship between Dwyane Wade and LeBron James what brought LeBron Thio way?

  • Thanks for watching ESPN on YouTube For live streaming sports and premium content.
