Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles - I first got into singing as a kid I think I was like nine years old and I just fell in love with music and there was never a plan B. (melancholic music) Prince discovered me about three years before he passed away. He told me he was a big fan of my voice. He said that he thinks I have an analog voice and to me that was so crazy, this is Prince, one of my biggest inspirations and one of the biggest icons of all time. He was also one of the funniest people I've ever met ever in my life. So this one time, Prince decided he wants to get donuts at 4:00 a.m. in Kentucky. I was in Kentucky, I had just watched Prince perform. Prince tells me he wants to get donuts. He hits me up, tells me, "Want to get donuts?" I put on my best attire cause it's Prince, you know, you can't wear, you know sweatpants around Prince. I meet him in the lobby, he's in his stage attire fully dressed. We pull up to this donut place in Kentucky. I don't know where it was exactly. The people that worked there start, you know, giggling so much cause it's Prince, you know. We're sitting there, they roll down the window, it's, you know, crazy. There's a lot of pinch me moments and for me along this journey, you know doing music. (gentle reflective music) I have a lot of high goals and expectations for myself and I put a lot of pressure on myself but I've really learned to embrace the small wins so to say and you know, for me, it's a win every time a fan comes up to me or messages me about my music affecting them in a specific way, if it's comforting or if it's, if it brings them joy. If they can relate to my story I think, you know, that's a win for me every time. Then I feel like I'm on the right path, doing what I do. Well, there's this artist in my mind I've worked with him 150,000 times. It's been incredible, our voices mesh and blend perfectly. This artist's name is Frank Ocean, and I hope that it will happen one day. You know, honestly, I invest so much back into my own artistry of me as a project, as an artist so touring is so expensive but, you know, I feel like it's all worth it. I'm just investing back in me and to me that's a splurge that I value maybe over clothes and materialistic things but luckily, in my job, it's a part of it so I still get to wear cute outfits. In five years I hope I have a family, I hope I have some more stability in my life. This life and path that I chose requires a lot of time away from my family and a lot of traveling and just being super focused and, you know, it's kind of rocky but I, yeah, I wish and pray for more stability and yeah, just hope that I'm happy and that I'm still making music. And that that collab happen between me and Frank.
