It has evolved from the Western dialects of Proto-Slavic at the end of the 10h century and the first written documents in Czech appear in the 12th century. The total number of all the people that can speak Czech is estimated to be 13,2 million people. (Not counting the Slovak speakers who can understand Czech fluently)
