Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles It was so emotional for him last year, winning his fifth green jacket on after three straight pars to open his round. And he started on the second night here at Augusta National. Second shot here, the par 5 13. Yeah, this is a ball well above his feet. You think it's gonna move a little bit? Right toe left in this ball actually slides out to the right. He doesn't think it's gonna carry, but it does. Very fortunate, Happy Tiger. And from there he was able to hit a really, really good long pot and get it up to this point. A speed on this long putts approach. Putting was excellent in Thursday's first round, making that one. He's one under par and the red numbers after the fourth hole of the day. And then he goes to the par 5/15 after Apart 14. Another approach out here to set up what he would hope to be would be an eagle or birdie attempt. If you make any mistakes, it all to the front right hole, location. It has to be long. You do not want to miss it, right or short because of the water this ball carries just over the green and because of the soft conditions, normally that ball might have ricocheted and released much further away. But he's got plenty of green to work with. He still got a great opportunity to get it up and in for birdie. You're with tournament being held in November compared to April. There was some question about how the grass would play in the fall compared to the spring, and that would probably checked up on him a little bit more than he thought it would have. Yeah, he played a really nice shot. He spent a ton of time on the practice facility hitting those types of shots the last couple of days, leaving himself a very difficult birdie opportunity for about 12 14 ft. Big breaker from left to right. Kind of put that you have to have perfect speed and he does right in the center. So that's two birdies over a three hole stretch and then he goes to the far 3 16 and the pin was up front. It was gettable today, here in 16 unusual front pin or the soft conditions that makes it easier. Nine. Iron 1 60 just a beautiful swing, and he knows it's close. The way when your players eyes were going up and down, That's a good thing. Throws it off the back. Hill. Spins it down. Absolutely, beautifully played and beautifully executed. His three under matches his best opening nine at any Masters back in 2010, when he also shot 68 in the first round. So now he makes the turn. He goes to number one from the fairway, which is crucial to this par four. Well, this isn't with a driver on the first hole. This would have been with a three wood to keep a short of that fairway bunker shot in the 170 yard range. Just a nice, smooth seven iron. Beautiful swing. Great balance. And it's right at it again, keeping it below the hole. Very make a birdie opportunity. His ball striking was very solid. Didn't seem to have any issues. A couple squarely swings here or there. But again, all speed with the putter was tremendous. Yes, there's very good distance control the putter, and here's a putt that everybody thinks goes a little bit right toe left. It's dead straight. He knows it knocks it right in the middle, so he makes another birdie there. He's four under on his day and again his best open around in the Masters of 68. So now you go to the par five second hole, Great Dr Middle of the Fairway and a pretty good coach opportunity here to set up another birdie attempt. Maybe, but again, this one, maybe his work swinging today. Well, it's often the downhill slope, and you're trying to hit a draw. That's a hard shot to hit comes up out of it. He knows he has to miss it to the right. Unfortunately, he loved it. If it had gone to the right of that bunker ended up in the bunker, leaving himself a really, really long, difficult bunker shot would have made it more difficult with the soft conditions. You couldn't get it. Take that first hop and get rolling. Stops dead himself about a 25 footer uphill for birdie. What she did not make so he would make part there, then come into the last hole of the game again, his ninth hole here in Augusta National, trying to get in with bogey free card. 68. And if you notice there's an awful lot of these second shots being played out of the dead center of the fair, we hit the ball beautifully off the tee, hit a lot of great iron shots. Here's another birdie opportunity. Unfortunately, it's just enough above the hole that this part is going to really have a ton of break in it. And here is that putt about a 10 to 12 inch break. He's gotta just cozy and down the hill, and it doesn't break the way he wanted to. But all in all, maybe the best round of golf tigers played all year long, just the fourth bogey free open around that he's ever posted in a major, his first into 2009 p g a championship when he finished second that year Y e. Yang. But all things considered, Tiger said that was probably the highest score he could have shot on Thursday, considering how well he hit his irons and also rolled that putter on these greens. And there you see bogey free rounds for Tiger in the first round of a major 2000, he won going away 2000 open. He won going away. 2009 P. J. Mentioned as I mentioned, he finished second that year. What will happen here in 2020? We will find out shortly. But afterwards, Tiger said everything was working for him on Thursday.
