Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles What's up y'all, it's Emile Ennis Jr. with Clevver News, and Billie Eilish has officially been named one of Spotify's top streaming female artists of 2020 with big musical names like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande following closely behind. It's the most wonderful time of the year -- where it finally sets in as to how much of Taylor Swift's folklore album you ACTUALLY listened to… AKA Spotify's Wrapped data, specifically tailored to your own musical tastes and shared on social media by all your peers. Every year it seems there's typically one artist that slips through the cracks as we're pleasantly surprised to find we listened to them 847 times on repeat during some of the toughest days, but one artist not-so-surprisingly managed to top the streaming platforms 'most streamed female artist' list. On Tuesday, Spotify's official Twitter account shared the news that Billie Eilish has officially been named the 'most streamed' female artist of 2020, garnering a whopping 49,736,031 monthly listeners on the platform, beating out Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande for the top spot. The post read QUOTE, “Nothing but respect for our queens. These female artists had the most streams across Spotify in 2020 #2020Wrapped.” And what's even more impressive was that Billie was able to take the lead in Spotify streams this year without even having released an album. Billie did, however, release three new singles this year, including “No Time To Die,”“my future,” and “Therefore I Am.” She performed her debut of “my future” alongside her brother Finneas O'Connell at the Democratic National Convention, and received massive amounts of praise for speaking out against Donald Trump. “Therefore I Am” is currently sitting pretty at number one on Billie's 'popular' songs list on Spotify, and it was revealed just last month that she earned four Grammy nominations for her 2019 single “Everything I Am” and her James Bond-inspired track “No Time To Die.” Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande both released their surprise albums, folklore and Positions respectively, later this year, which has earned them both the number 2 and 3 spots in the female 'most streamed' category followed by Dua Lipa, Halsey and Lady Gaga. But along with Billie, other female artists that didn't release an album yet still managed to top the 'most streamed' charts were Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Camila Cabello. That's pretty impressive if you ask me… As for the most streamed artist of 2020, Spotify revealed that Bad Bunny took the lead at 8.2 billion streams worldwide, followed by Drake, J Balvin, Juice WRLD and The Weeknd in that order. And not surprisingly, the most streamed song of the year went to The Weeknd's “Blinding Lights” with almost 1.6 billion streams globally, followed by “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, and Roddy Rich's “The Box.” So if you need me, I'll just be over here replaying all of my own top streamed hits for the remainder of the year!
