Come on, we all knew this was going to happen. We knew we were going to see multiple version
updates for Street Fighter 4. But thankfully, each update is being done correctly. Super
Street Fighter 4 was without a doubt better than the original, and now Super Street Fighter
4 Arcade Edition improves on that. But while it definitely does not add as much as Super
did, it comes as a downloadable patch for Super, and with it a budget price.
So what it new about this version. Well for one, everything that was in Super is here,
but this one has even more stuff. There are four new characters to choose from, Evil Ryu,
Yun, and Yang from Street Fighter 3, and Oni, who is a modified version of Akuma. Each character
feels like a legitimate character and not just a reskinning of others, even though they
may look and sound like it. Evil Ryu plays very differently than Ryu, so that is good.
Plus it is good to see some more Street Fighter 3 love with Yun and Yang. Each new character
feels balanced and brings a lot of fun learning their new super and ultra moves, and how to
work with them.
Besides the new characters, the game is still pretty much the same as Super. Hardcore fans
will appreciate there has been literally hundreds of modifications in-order to improve character
balancing but to the casual fan, they are really hard to notice. Like it’s hard to
notice that Cammy’s close standing medium punch had its recovery time decreased. Here
is one change I would like, why not make Seth somewhat fair. I mean, seriously, I can’t
stand him.
But the main reason people will pick this up is for the online play, which has seen
some major editions. Lobby selection is now easier, the replay system has been greatly
improved, and there is even an elite channel where you can watch the best fighters to study
up and work on your game. If you are serious about your online Street Fighter, then you
need to get this.
Another nice thing about the game is, if you buy it, either the physical disk or download,
you can go back and switch over to normal Super Street Fighter 4 at any time. Not that
big of a deal but it’s nice it is an option. Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition is said
to be the final update to this numerical entry in the series. There is enough new to warrant
a purchase, especially at the budget price, but if you don’t play online, it’s not
really a have to buy. Cross your fingers and wait for Street Fighter 5.
