Iconic things like the arrow slits in the walls, are things we always associate with castles. I like the cannons. Cannons! Bang! Boom! Blow down the walls! Castles are places where some of the most important historical events in our country's history took place. Love their power, their status, the people they have had living within them. Brings history to life again. This has been here for hundreds of years, imagine what these walls could tell you if only they could speak. No castle is the same, every castle you go to has its own unique attributes. There's always an activity on. One of our particular favourites is the Joust. It's absolutely thrilling. It's something that you remember for a long time. There's lots of space to play. It's a great day out for the family and a chance to learn something about our history at the same time. There's nothing quite like unlocking the gate in the morning walking up and thinking wow I work in a castle. Castles are inspiring places with amazing stories to tell, but they need constant attention, if we're to make sure that they're going to remain standing tall for future generations. As a charity, English Heritage relies on public support to carry out important conservation work, so we can preserve our castles and their stories for generations to come. If you love castles as we do then take your place in England's story by helping to give the nations heritage a future. Donate today
