  • So what's life in lock down like for secondary school pupils?

  • Earlier this evening, we gathered a group together, and I started by asking them what this lock down was like.

  • Compared to last, I think we've lost a bit of the mentality toe want to lean because last time we were all headstand doing it, and now it's like, Well, how long am I going to be doing this?

  • For now, I just want to get back.

  • And do you find it difficult to get going with your lessons?

  • Yeah, I do find it quite difficult, especially being a teenager.

  • I'm quite lazy.

  • So I I just want to stay in bed, whereas in the classroom, you know you have to be there.

  • It z just exhausting, really, it's not.

  • People seem to think that it's just a similar idea of school.

  • You go on an online class when you're supposed to be in class, and then that's fine.

  • But it's much more tiring than that and trying to force yourself to work during school and not doing anything but school.

  • It's just quite exhausting.

  • I think it's like harder than normal lessons because it's like easy.

  • I get distracted because you could just, like, go on your phone.

  • But in lessons like you can't really get distracted.

  • I do mind in the living room and, yeah, it gets a bit frustrating after sometime when your little brother runs in, it's a bit.

  • It's a bit more complicated because when you're doing work, you don't really have the teacher like standing up to the front of the clubs like you can't really just asked him a question.

  • It's more complicated.

  • You have to write down in a comment in the comment section, and you have to wait some time and it's just a lot more time taking Madison for you.

  • How are you getting on with this versus last?

  • Lock down?

  • Is it better or worse?

  • Um, for me, it's It's a lot better because we have live lessons, pre recorded lessons, with teachers telling us what to do.

  • It's a lot easier than us locked down.

  • I think it's very hard, Andi, I'm especially worried about my g.

  • C S C s and being at a disadvantage when it comes to that.

  • Andi, I think there are a lot of things that make it really difficult to learn at home.

  • Like pod.

  • For example, When you have bad Internet connection, it takes you really long to join your live lessons.

  • Yeah, you have pre recorded lessons, but it doesn't.

  • You don't learn the same things that you would if you went to school.

  • And do you find that stressful?

  • Yeah.

  • I found that really stressful.

  • For example, when I'm doing P, I can't go outside as I normally would in the playground on there's only one computer.

  • So sometimes I do have to share.

  • Have to wait, and it's very difficult.

  • I've seen that you actually wear uniforms.

  • Does it help you to get up in the morning and put your uniform on?

  • And as it were, pretend that you're actually going to school.

  • Yeah, because it helps you get ready for today.

  • What about you, Jacob?

  • What are you finding a hard or easier about working at home when I'm finding harder?

  • The temptation to just go on my phone Or just, like, knocked in my work and just go do something else?

  • Where is it?

  • School.

  • You can't just like, do whatever you want.

  • You have toe actually be.

  • They have to have your head in the lesson on what are you missing?

  • Most probably see my friends because I can't see them because it because I've locked on.

  • Um, mayor, what do you worry about when you're working from home?

  • I'm worrying about just, you know, it is my weak, right?

  • Um, I do, um, I on the course.

  • Oh, my, you know, like completing the tasks right is what, um, I mean, in the success criteria which they're setting for me.

  • Sometimes I'm like messaging my friends.

  • And I'm like, Have you done this task?

  • And then again, it might be something I haven't done yet or I just worry because it were in class.

  • And I know it's individual wig, but it's still your all in that class together, doing the same pieces.

  • And it's just you just it's hard.

  • It's really hard.

  • Dylan explained the technology in your house, how you're all coping with the technology.

  • The WiFi cuts out a lot, which is the main issue because my brother has online schools.

  • Well, on I have license that are live me things pretty much every class, and so I need to be on our old times, and I do get kicked out quite a lot because the wife I just can't handle it.

  • And because my dad's also working.

  • What about you, Madison?

  • Tell me about exercise for you and screen time, how you deal with all that screen time because I want to screen a lot.

  • I get, like, many headaches in my eyes, uh, almost every day and for exercise and play outside with the dog and being got Joe Wick, Joe Wicks videos sent on M s teams, my teachers sometimes telling me like 30 minute pockets of exercise, and I do those.

  • But other than that, I'm not getting much.

  • Well, I plain Apple and I can't even remember the last time we could go in practice or play and waited like a presentation night, but like they came to the door with trophies.

  • But we can.

  • I haven't played an apple for ages, and it's a team is a team sport, so I can't really practice network or at home.

  • What can you do?

  • And it's just being with the team and the Gaels I used to do.

  • Suman and I can't really go anymore because all the leisure centers are closed and I do really miss it and tell me, How is your relationship with your parents changed during locked down?

  • When you're all often at home and having to work together and accommodate each other?

  • Tell me Hattie and Jacob, how is it for you?

  • It builds a more tension because he's like saying each other quite often.

  • And like sometimes I could get frustrated in that I mean, it is unhealthy, really?

  • To do the same people for so long.

  • You need to go on.

  • If I want to go on a walk, I have to go.

  • Go on my own.

  • Just have a little break from everyone.

  • So what about you, Dylan?

  • I've actually got on with my parents very well.

  • We have really similar interests, so it's been quite nice to talk to them more about it.

  • But it's kind of changed how I socialize because I'm used to socializing with, you know, my parents and not people who are my age.

  • And but my brother started a little bit harder because he's a lot younger than me.

  • So he's not had the best time.

  • What is the most important thing for you about getting back to school?

  • Probably talking to my friends when we're in the playground, just seeing what have Bean do, what we've been doing and also and just probably do.

  • You probably do more exercise because I walk to school and walk back.

  • I'll probably do more exercise.

  • I think it's like the environment because, like there's some people who, like you can't really talk to a lot when you're back at school, you can see like lots of people and like you get more help.

  • I think it's the mentality of being in a classroom and being able to focus more rather than in my bedroom is the main thing.

  • Probably the education, because I'm not getting very much of that because sometimes I'm really not bothered to do work.

  • But when you're in school, you're kind of forced to do it.

  • So it's kind of a difficult question because I don't entirely think we should be back in the classroom just because I mean, I'm sure we all understand that like we can't so I try not to think about one thing to be back and because I know that realistically I can't.

  • So I would prefer that a lot more research and time was spent in tow.

  • How online learning can be the most effective.

  • Because right now I think there's a lot of improvements that could be made Madison for you.

  • What's the most important thing about getting back to school?

  • Um, claiming, you know, and which is in our option soon.

  • And I think I'd rather be in school to choose them and get all the information I need about them.

  • I definitely want to go back to school because of socializing on my education.

  • But I fully understand the measurements that the government has made Thio keep us all safe and to prevent cases of cove it from rising.

  • What do you miss most?

  • I really miss away my friends.

  • Really?

  • I miss being with my friends and laughing with, and I think maybe the whole going to school and this'll destruction routine of it.

  • I think Well, every day now I know I wake up to stay in the house all day, so I just don't There's nothing to look forward to now, except for maybe if you've got an arranged zoom with your friends is the most exciting thing.

  • But now you wake up and you just know you're gonna be home for the day.
