Today's video is a vlog from my favourite spot of the entire trip, I hope you guys enjoy it. - Morning guys, welcome to day two of our Kyoto trip. We're here at Fushimi Inari Shrine. I've never been here before, I don't know how I've managed to live in Japan for 11 years and not visit here, but I'm super excited, because this place looks really beautiful. It's probably the top spot to visit in Kyoto, it's gonna be a long hike, apparently it's a couple of hours to get up to the top of the shrine, but the view's gonna be awesome. Let's get started, 'cause it's really hot. Fushimi Inari Shrine's at the base of the 233 meter tall Inari Mountain. You can hike up Inari Mountain through thousands of vermillion Torii Gates to explore the smaller shrines, located on the mountain. The trip usually takes around two hours, so make sure you wear some good hiking shoes. (upbeat music) (people chattering) (water flowing) (bells rattling) (shaking box) (shaking box) (speaking in Japanese) - Eight, eight. So I got my omikuji fortune, suedaikichi which is pretty good, I think it's like just before really lucky. (people chattering) (bells rattling) (people chattering) (bells rattling) Inari is the Japanese God of rice and general prosperity. Inari is a popular deity, with over one third of the Shinto shrines throughout Japan being dedicated to worshiping Inari. The entrance to an Inari shrine is usually marked by one or more vermilion Torii Gates and statues of foxes, which are seen as Inari's messengers. - It's really cool inside here (laughs), I'm so happy that it's all in the shade, I don't feel hot at all. Today's probably the hottest day of the year so far, but it's really shaded and nice in here. (people chattering) (gentle, traditional Japanese music) We're at the summit. After a two-hour long hike, we made it to the top of the mountain and guess what we discovered? Yep, that's right, more shrines, just when you thought you'd seen them all, there are more, but it's kind of neat how each one is a little different. You can find different fox statues, some of them are dressed up in cute little bibs or hats, it's really fun to explore the place. We decided to climb during the daytime, however, it is open 24 hours a day, so if you're up for something different, maybe give it a try at night. (upbeat music) - We're making our way back down now, that was quite the hike, but it was mostly in the shade, about 95% of the time, 90% of the time, so it wasn't too bad. (gentle, traditional Japanese music) On your way down, you see the opposite side of the Torii Gates and you can see the names of each person, that purchased one of the Torii Gates. You can actually purchase one of these yourself, and they're a lot cheaper than I expected them to be. (gentle, traditional Japanese music) (people chattering quietly) Found a mysterious frog shrine. Everything is frogs. (footsteps on gravel) (coin dropping into metal container) Alright, guys, that's it for today's video, I hope you guys enjoyed that. What other places would you like me to visit in Japan? Let me know in the comments below and I will see you guys soon. Bye! (upbeat, electronic music)
