Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Hey guys! Today we've got a special holiday episode of Wellcast. And I invited my single sister, Karen. Hello? It was your hibernating? You know that this Thursday is Valentine's Day But you know what? It's also just February 14th One day that doesn't have to be a big deal at all Uhm… unless it's your birthday like our designer Happy birthday, Stephanie So what if you'll head off with your boyfriend? Or let them go to that overpriced dinner at a restaurant that requires a tie and reservations. In honor of my sister Karen We have six awesome things that don't require a special someone to make your Valentine's Day special, and just for you. Step 1. Alright, don't let yourself get pressured into doing anything big. Valentine's Day has grown into a huge consumer-driven holiday One that you're seemingly getting pressed into celebrating That's a selling term you could look it up, but one advantage of being single is not having to stress out about what you're gonna do on the fourteenth! Don't worry about finding a date Or, on the flip side, try to stridently assert the fact that you're single Just have fun, do something for yourself, be happy. Step 2. Okay, as Donna says on "Parks and Rec" "Treat yourself, Girl." All that money that you're not spending on an overprice dinner splurge on yourself, okay? Make a plan to do something that you've been wanting to do for a really long time Get a pedicure. Okay. Buy yourself a sonic screwdriver Go to an improv class, yes And give yourself the gift of a truly relaxing day Tip 3. Friends The people, alright, not the show Well, it could be the show 'cause you could spend the whole day with people who mean a lot to you Watching Friends or larking with your... ah... weird friends Or geeking out watching Community with your study buddies which are kind of like friends Or you could go to the beach with your pals which are probably people that you've met on Facebook I don't call anyone "pals" Do you..do you call.. It doesn't if you have pals hang out with them Look, you're not the only single person. That's all I'm trying to say, okay? And if you're worried about missing out on Thursday, plan a big event with your friends. host a board game night you could even invite a couple of friends that aren't really in to Valentine's Day. Tip 4. Exercise I'm telling you to exercise on Valentine's Day. Okay? Get some fresh air, go on a hike or a bike ride, take your dog on a long walk. After all, pets are proven to make you happier. Remember our episode on pet therapy? It's all true Tip number six, volunteer Okay, this is a solid one. Spend some time at a local soup kitchen, animal shelter, or some other charitable organization that needs your help. Huh? With so many people spending time together on February 14th, chances are they're a little short-staffed. It's a great way to give back to your community, and help others feel good. Tip seven, above all, just a reminder, February 14th is just another day. Don't feel pressured to make it special. In fact, you don't even have to take any of the advice we gave you today. Just be yourself, eat chocolates, surround yourself with people you like, have a Breaking Bad marathon, do what you need to do. From all of us here at WellCast, Happy Valentine's Day.
