The ruling has been grudgingly accepted by runner up John Mahama, who maintains the legitimacy of his challenge over alleged irregularities in the results. Akufo Addo was declared the winner of the December 7th vote with almost 52% to Mohammed's just over 47%. Former President Mohamed claimed votes were added to the Cova Otto's total in some polling stations, pushing him above the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff. The court says his allegations are without merit. Mohammed says he has had to accept the judgment but does not believe the challenge has been dealt with properly. Mohammed Akufo Addo first went head to head in a 2012 presidential election. At that time, Akufo Addo launched a formal challenge that was eventually rejected two, then incumbent Mohammed's victory in a case that dragged on for eight months.
