Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles good morning guys good morning it is our last morning morning in colonia our last moments here in colonia this afternoon we catch the bus over to montevideo uruguay but we still have a few hours here so we thought we would take another little walk around the old town go up the lighthouse today we have beautiful weather for that it's a beauty of a town you know yeah the way they've kept it it's uh it's amazing far less tourists on the weekdays as well oh yeah yeah huge difference huge difference from the weekend we must be about maybe 10 people walk around in this area right now and uh during the weekend there were hundreds and hundreds of them you know like but i mean big groups yeah tours tours and school groups as well school groups children yeah yeah but definitely it's a nice place if you come to uruguay you gotta come and visit this you know yeah it's more of a weekend destination isn't that yeah two days i would figure that two days is plenty yeah to see what you have to see here the old part that's where it has the charm you know and let's go check out the lighthouse let's climb the el faro hey oh i made it the views are incredible i'm up there really i would say they were so so no from the very top you did you barely made it to the top hey i stuck my head out okay but yeah i'm kind of reminded of why i don't really like to climb bell towers that one was very i felt claustrophobic going up it's just the steps are very narrow and there's a ladder at the very end the ladder at the end and i didn't i didn't love that the where the balcony was that the railing basically went up to my stomach kind of feels like you can just like easily flop over anyways we're just both people that don't really like heights and i noticed other people didn't mind it at all so don't let my information scare you i'd go up for the views and yeah the price is very good it's only what 30 uh uruguayan pesos yeah it's less than a dollar so less than a dollar yeah it's about 70 it's about 75 cents to go up i got some artisanal ice cream because it's turning out to be a warm day this one is strawberry water-based strawberry they also have like a creamy strawberry 80 in local currency so like two us box worth that worth it cooling down huh i'm very good there are quite a few ice cream shops there's also a fredo next next around the corner argentine ice cream very good stuff we had that the other day tired from barking all day did you bark too much well we've checked out of the airbnb we're at the bus terminal now killing some time yeah there's only one like four or five blocks to walk here yeah fairly easy fairly easy it's just our bags are happy we've we're touting extra tannat wine and souvenirs at this point so like our bags feel like twice as heavy anyways so we've got two hours to kill the bus terminal we found a cafe at the very end of here one of the things that i'm having is empanada i haven't had an empanada in uruguay yet what kind did you get i got salami and cheese i've got all the meat and cheese in there and yeah this is how we're spending our last few hours here in colonia really excited to go to montevideo the capital city of uruguay i was there like almost 10 years ago and it's a place i really really enjoyed again it still has a really cool colonial vibe but it's obviously much much bigger than here there's more markets to explore there's more restaurants there's more sites more historic sites to check out so yeah i'm super pumped that we're gonna have four nights there i mean the first day is just getting there but then we're gonna have three full days to explore i checked the weather looks like we're gonna have beautiful sunny days highs of about 20 to 25 every day it just looks perfect killing time now until we get on the bus and we should be there around five we'll take a cab to our place drop off our bags and then scout out a really good place probably to get a steak tonight so i'm excited about that all right guys so we're almost ready to get on the bus so we wanted to give you a quick update talk about prices so you have an idea of how much it costs to travel from colonia to montevideo uruguay we're going with a company called and we paid 424 uruguayan pesos which comes to just under seven us dollars correction i'm doing my math all wrong i got like the the converter app and i was doing argentine pesos instead of uruguayans so we're talking 11 yeah it's not seven still a good deal not seven bucks eleven bucks well we made it we have arrived capital city of uruguay here we are montevideo home sweet home we rented an airbnb right on plaza independencia overlooking a beautiful square with palm trees how was the journey the drive over it was only three hours so three hours a nice uh bus uh ride lots of farmland yeah it's uh this uruguay this area is just like the the province of buenos aires in argentina the pampa flat land you know uh some cows and some uh crops but no major towns or cities along the way no nothing none whatsoever it looked very rural but uh yeah now we're gonna go eat because uh our lunch was very lean and uh i didn't have breakfast this morning the gut is empty what would we eat here in the capital in uruguay that you don't even ask in uruguay you eat meat nate okay meat that's it it was going to be a tannat wine yeah a meat quest beef is excellent the beef here you know yeah i would even say that it equals or better than in argentina so cheers guys cheers guys hello cheers my first meal here in the capitol we are having a don pasqual it's a coastal tannat from uruguay it's a beauty it's a very very good one bonus is really good it's just so smooth for a tanak grape it's very smooth and like velvety going down yeah we've we've had some aggressive tannants yeah this is this is the smoothest one so far the uruguay is uh is making uh some nice wines you know with this kind of grape and they are slowly gaining gaining ground quietly silently nobody knows nobody suspects they keep doing stuff like this they can go really far it's a small industry i guess but uh it's got a lot of potential yeah i like it salute well well well well the meat is here more tannat wine oh he's pouring more tannat wine he saw an empty glass i saw empty glass cannot be empty glass not allowed in uruguay or argentina so basically today we all ordered the same cut of meat it's called intricot here in uruguay and in argentina it would be the beef yeah in english is this one the sirloin or the new york i think it's like the sirloin sirloin right now it's from here in the back this meat here in uruguay is fantastic okay it's like uh these two countries in latin america argentina and uruguay they're the champions of beef and they are the champions of the beef around the world barn on i tasted beef from the united states from canada from europe nothing compares to these guys if you want to go to the source and taste the real mccoy you gotta go either to argentina or uruguay they're even it's the same they have the same pastures so the cows they graze on these pastures that they it gives the the the meat the flavor you know these are good it's good stuff huh yeah my dad's dish came with a lot of sides it's got some green peas bacon red pepper yeah yeah was that potato yours was just solo yeah the mini portion mine came with uh mine has a mushroom sauce and also the potatoes so i can't wait to try it i did get a pumpkin puree you did oh well a great meal once again in uruguay well sam cameraman always eats last oh can't wait to try this have the exact same thing as you guys with a mushroom sauce creamy mushroom sauce how is that the meat is just incredible the sauce really adds something unique to the taste really rich i would describe this as jacketed oh my totally decadent so i basically made everyone get dessert our plan was to go to a bakery but when they asked us for dessert i just couldn't say no right it felt bad yeah right felt so bad yeah right he recruited us we're not supposed to have this it's good it's crepes with the dulce de leche and ice cream wow how could not be good no it could not be good and i've got my own very own right there so the amount of blue cilantro in there like that must be a cup full of lucidage well no one's losing weight today but what did you guys think of the the place overall wonderful wasn't a great place for a steak good meal good meal good service yeah back at the apartment real tending that was a fantastic meal that's that's one of those meals that you'll remember forever it was just that good the food was exquisite the service was great very friendly chatty waiter you had a good sense of humor oh man i can't believe we got dessert that was so good that's one of the best uh dulce de leche pancakes i've ever had because of the caramelized sugar ended up scraping extra dulce de leche off of your guy's plate oh man what a day so excited to be here in montevideo uruguay we've got three full days to explore it looks like we've got great weather the whole time so we're just gonna get a good night's sleep and guys we'll see you tomorrow with another episode from here foreign
