Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles While “Lost in Nightmares” paid homage to the original games in the Resident Evil franchise, with its dark and slower paced gameplay, “Desperate Escape” goes the complete opposite direction. This DLC is just a straight action game, not even pretending to be a survival horror game. You play as Jill Valentine and Josh Stone. After Jill is rescued by Chris and Sheva, she is found by Josh and the two make their escape. The story is very thin, sometimes giving a radio conversation that you might remember from Resident Evil 5. But other than that, it is just a tense escape. The game still has the love it or hate it co-op. You love it when you are playing with a friend and working together well, but you hate it when you are playing with the AI. The two of you make your way to the helicopter, but blocking your path are countless enemies. This is fast-paced intense action. There are no real puzzles to solve, only the occasional locked door that needs to be opened elsewhere. Other than that, you will be shooting enemies. There are no slow moments and no time to catch your breath. You know when you are playing a game, and the intense music comes on and you know that you are in for some biting moments? Well in this the music starts at the beginning and never lets up. What's great though are the levels. The action may be straightforward but the levels are anything but. You will twist around, with multiple paths and the correct one not the most obvious. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, running around, constantly worried about what’s ahead and behind you. All this coming to a head at the end, where you are trapped on the helipad waiting for the copter to be ready and dealing with wave after wave of enemies. It’s both intense and memorable, like many helicopter scenes in the Resident Evil series. The DLC is little on the short side, lasting between hour or two, but that hour will be spent gripping your controller. If you think that Resident Evil needs to go back to the way it was, this is not for you. But if you are a fan of the action scenes in RE5, then pick this up and enjoy the action.
