Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles - Hey, guys, how's it going? My name is Micaela, and right now I'm living in the small town of Aya in Miyazaki Prefecture. If you haven't watched the video I uploaded on Wednesday, to summarize it really quickly, I'm here temporarily for one month on a short work contract doing a tourism project, and when that's done I'm moving back up to northern Kyushu, to Fukuoka. So, I'm not here forever, but to be honest, after about a week, I kind of wish I was. It's really, really beautiful here. The air is clean, the water's beautiful, the food is delicious, and it's just a much more relaxed and comfortable lifestyle. Since I got here, things are finally starting to settle down a little bit, and I finally found a day where I can sit at home and I can do my laundry, and finally organize my furniture and kind of set up my room properly. And just the other day I got this giant box of stuff from Society 6, and Society 6, I'm just gonna tell you really quickly, so on Society 6, artists can submit their artwork or their photographs and customers can find designs and patterns they like and have them made into bedding, into throw pillows, bath mats, t-shirts, anything you want, really. But, because I'm moving into a new room, I actually took this opportunity to get a few things for this room to make it a little more personal and something more suited to my style. So I'm really excited, I'm really excited, I'm really excited to show you what I picked out. First thing I got was this really sweet little photo frame with the reminder, "Be as good a person "as your pets believe you are." Sometimes it's important to be reminded of this. Oh, and this is one that I really like, as a perfectionist, 'cause I feel like I always hold myself back when things are just not up to my own standards. "Create something today, even if it sucks." I also got this sweet moon clock because it matches my sweater, it matches my phone case, it matches my computer case, my shoes. I really like spacey things. This carpet is a lot bigger than I thought it was gonna be. It's just a multi-colored zigzag carpet. I'm so excited for this, you guys, I'm so excited for this. I got a fleece blanket. I got a fleece blanket with a frickin' watercolor Shiba on it. It's a watercolor Shiba. I also got some really cool constellation and forest-themed throw pillows. All right, everything's looking great. It's time to decorate this room. It's not every day that I have a chance to decorate a Japanese-style bedroom. It's a little bit different than the modern-day housing that I'm used to. From the walls to the flooring, these rooms are extremely delicate, and you have to handle them with absolute care. It pretty much goes without saying that heavy furniture is not so great for tatami flooring. You will almost always be sleeping on a futon in a tatami bedroom. I'm actually pretty luck this room has shelves built in to it. It gives me the perfect place to place my motivational word frames and clock. Otherwise, I don't know what I would do. The rug, bedding, and pillows really help bring life to an otherwise muted color scheme. The yellow tones really match the natural lighting that comes through the windows, too. When I packed up to move here, I tried to bring as few things as possible, and one of the things I'm really glad I did bring is this little projector. I can watch all my favorite movies and TV shows without the hassle of bringing a TV along with me. And I'm pretty happy with this. It definitely feels more like a room than it did, you know, like two hours ago. You don't wanna know how I was sleeping before I got my bedding. It wasn't pretty. If you know me, if you know my personal style, I love bright colors, I love ridiculous things. I mean, I'm wearing space pajamas. I love just, like, bright colors, loud, vibrant things. So, I love all the colors. I love the color themes that are going on in this thing here. My projector's currently showing stock images of scenery, which is still pretty cool. It's a pretty cool vibe. Because it is a Japanese room with tatami floors and the sliding doors, you can't put anything on the walls. You can't just stick a nail into those papery doors or anything. It won't hold very well. So, it is really hard to decorate a room like this, but I don't know, I don't know. I kinda like it, I do like it. It's definitely coming along and becoming more of my space, you know? Something that keeps me motivated, makes me feel at home, which is really important. Inside the sliding doors, my suitcase, some clothing, some supplements, and some clothes. Nothing says work hard like some chocolate and some wine, so that's what I'm having right now. This is my microphone that I use for all my voice narration. It's the Yeti Blue. There's a dog hair on it. It's a really good mic. I used to use it for singing, and now I mostly use it for video narration. It's a good mic. So you might have noticed, there are no air conditioners. Usually, Japanese houses have air-con, like an air conditioner in each room, and the air conditioner usually has a heating feature, but there are no air conditioners in this house. So, what we use for heating instead is this kerosene heater. Inside is a tank full of kerosene. It smells like gas fumes, it's really funky. And we just press a button. Apparently, it's 16 degrees in this room right now, but it'll heat it up to 24. This is my tripod, which makes a great coat hanger. What do you think, buddy, you like it? Ah! Hey, guys, so just reminding you, I'll be holding a meetup here in Aya on Sunday, and if you live in the area, I'd love if you'd come hang out with me. I'll be in the Honmono Center, so drop by and chill, let's chill. I'm gonna bring my dog, it's gonna be cool. Bye!
