  • Spudgy's got kidney stones! Ah, this sucks

  • Wait, that's no what this video is about is it? What this video is about is us emotional eating. Yeah!

  • We're gonna be taking you for two different kinds of Japanese parfait. Classy parfaits and trashy parfaits

  • None of these oversized parfaits that you always see on like Instagram and whatnot

  • Most people don't usually eat those and oftentimes those parfaits suck. They suck! They suck!

  • They Suck! We're gonna show you some good stuff today come emotionally eat with us

  • This is Woodberry's. Now, it is actually an awesome little tiny natural yogurt shop. We first discovered this near Inokashira Park

  • It's the smallest!

  • Fits three human beings or one Simon, and they make you fresh yogurt with whatever toppings you want and we recently discovered that they also

  • Have this store here, which does epic parfaits.

  • The reason we want to show you this place is because they do a really good job of highlighting the

  • Seasonality of fruits here a lot of parfait sometimes have tons of toppings that just don't really go well together. Like cereal? Like cereal?

  • No, I'm sorry. Trashy parfaits will be like how much stuff can we dump on it? They put on pocky sticks?

  • They dump like cookies. They put like cereal this place is using real local fruit

  • They even have like entire baskets fruit baskets to show you like what's in season. So let's have some good fruit with out parfait.

  • It's a *healthy* parfait, if you will. Keep telling myself that. It IS a healthy parfait! It is!

  • It's real, fermented, nicely made yogurt. This is good for us! That's right, both body and soul.

  • And hip.

  • You know, a lot of people don't know that song.

  • You can't be making references to songs that are over a decade old now.

  • I always try to gauge how well this works based on Dan's reaction

  • as the cameraman behind there.

  • Is he smiling or is he frowning? I think

  • Dan has lied to his mom about his job.

  • Wow. Oh my gosh. Look at this. These are beautiful. Oh my gosh.

  • Holy smokes. And here's Dan's... corn one.

  • That's corn. Right there.

  • So I went for the traditional parfait, which is absolutely beautiful

  • Now what makes us different than most parfaits is it's actually made with yogurt instead of ice cream.

  • I'm just stunned with the presentation of this because. It's beautiful right?

  • It's not just a matter of how much stuff you could get in there.

  • But the layering-- they're taking all the seasonal fruit at the moment and then presenting it in tremendous ways. So this has a nectarine

  • It's got fresh grapes and pears, and it looks like I see a bit of a compote. They make a homemade

  • frozen yogurt here, and there's some surprises waiting for me underneath this.

  • While I have the fig special-- tons of figs everywhere and delicious yogurt

  • This is gonna be a lot better than I actually planned on this video being. You know what I like about this place as well?

  • They actually have a map up on the wall of Japan, talking about the seasonality of the fruit of what they use

  • So you may not be able to get this big parfait when you come here, and you may not be able to get this one,

  • but you'll be able to enjoy whatever seasonal fruit they have. Okay. How do I even start here?

  • I'm gonna try a bit of a nectarine first

  • Gonna eat some cream.

  • Don't know why as a kid

  • I never liked figs. I always thought figs were like old people fruits-

  • Cuz they look like alien creatures from another planet

  • Cuz they look all sad and wrinkled, like only sad wrinkly people can eat FIGS

  • NO when you cut them open and they're filled with like little tiny eggs

  • and you're like uUgh, and then you get older and you realize they're

  • Bombastic.

  • But now that I too am sad and wrinkly, I can eat a fig.

  • Oh my god, I went for the original yogurt. It's tart, it's not overly sweet, and they make it themselves

  • So it has like a really good old-school kind of feeling. Does that makes sense.. everybody? Mmm

  • This is just a really great seasonal fruit with the tart yogurt to cut the sweetness of the fruit.

  • A fruit salad with some nice yogurt to balance it out. Go ahead. Try some of mine. I'mma try some of yours.

  • Wow, the fig is so sweet. Are you ready for this raspberry compote? Okay, you're not even ready for this time. I'm not?

  • I'm starting to feel better about Spudgy having kidney stones. Yes

  • Somehow I'm starting to feel better about that. Spudgy's sitting at home going

  • But you can't. You're on special dietary food now.

  • Look at how huge these grapes are. Look at the size of these grapes.

  • Those

  • Delicious Japanese grapes! The skin of the grape tastes like what you think grapes should taste like, and then the inside tastes like grape candy

  • Have you ever noticed that delicious things tend to make you fat? Hmm. That's not really fair.

  • I feel kind of confused about this because this is just figs with some nice yogurt. Home made yogurt.

  • I think it should be healthy for me, shouldn't it? I think it might be good for us. I think it might be good for us!

  • Because we only got the plain yogurt, right? So there was no caramel, no chocolate, no sugar, no honey. No, nothing

  • Then they put on fresh nectarines, fresh grapes. This feels like something that I would eat for breakfast

  • I feel good after eating this. Look at us justifying. I know ....and now for the junkie stuff!

  • My god that is so good.

  • Parfaits are wildly popular all over Japan. You've got traditional parfaits. You've got once the Cheesecake in them, ice cream

  • You've got fruit. You've got brownies. There are a lot to choose from

  • And now for a more junky parfaits. We're at a very generic cafe

  • There are lots of them all over Japan. This one offers over 12 different parfait flavors. Yep. It's nothing gourmet.

  • It's just kind of something to satiate your parfait feelings and we're gonna ask you guys to pick a number between one to twelve

  • Tenth answer is gonna be my parfait. Twentieth is Simon's. All right. Okay. You ready ready?

  • There it is in all its sexiness

  • Ughh! ...oh my. Um. L-look at that it um...

  • Oh my god it looks like- like a ghost!

  • AHHH

  • It's all.. dripping! and falling apart!

  • A-are those FROZEN?

  • How much did this cost per person?

  • So the other one that we had was one thousand four hundred yen per person. This one was three hundred ninety

  • So we're looking at four bucks versus like 14 bucks. This is very different. You could see your fruit is frozen

  • leT iT G- *smack*

  • Rather than fresh. This is ice cream and lots of corn flakes

  • Let's give it a taste. I mean, the ice cream in Japan is always great. Like look at how thick that is

  • ohh sh-

  • When did they clean this counter last, I don't know.

  • I'll be honest. This is some bombastic icecream.

  • Mean, it's super creamy. It's still wonderful. Wow. It's really good. It's a really nice sweet ice cream. Yeah have some of your

  • frozen

  • have some of your

  • FROZEN

  • -- berries in there. How am I supposed to

  • get into this, do you think? In North America. We're suckers. We usually eat our cereal with milk. Not here

  • Eat your cereal with ice cream like a true winner

  • The frozen strawberries are extremely tart which makes me believe that they're not Japanese strawberries because I've never had a tart Japanese strawberry

  • These are some kind of frosted corn flakes which add a nice texture. This is great because if it's just ice cream by itself

  • It can become too soft and too mushy. Like my figs with my yogurt, it was very soft

  • Here having a good different texture is great

  • We're being super critical of this junkie one, but it still tastes pretty darn g ood.

  • Look. We're pretending as if this is the first time we tried this. We've had it many times

  • We've had these parfaits many times before all right.

  • We will not have any errors in this video. This stuff is still great. It's not as good as the other one

  • That doesn't mean that we don't love this still

  • Are you crushing my cereal? Trying to get the ice cream to seep down. That's a good point. Let's crush our cereal

  • This is also the kind of thing I always see high school kids sharing.

  • They'll have like one parfait and like four of them all eating it together.

  • I think it probably has a really good... like a warm memory

  • Like when you were younger, what did you eat? Did you ever share like a Tim Horton's donut? I've done that

  • I've shared a doughnut with my friend before.

  • There's a lot of syrup down there. Yuuup. Thanks for warning me.

  • When you come to Japan

  • Whether you want a classy parfait or a junky parfait?

  • You're gonna have a great time. And there's definitely between as well, so you can have an in between one.
