Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles kawagoe is a beautiful town in saitama prefecture where you get to experience the elegant atmosphere of the 20th century japan we also wanted to explore the beauty of this town and what better way to explore a city and learn about the culture then through your stomach? let us take you on a food tour in japan's thai show roman cities kawague kawagoe is very famous for its sweet potato treats around town you can find shops selling various types of sweet potato desserts one of the most famous ones is called Koeda Osatsu this store is selling potato chips on the tower bell street their long and thin potato chips rose to fame shortly after its opening and it is no surprise why they are super thin yet crunchy plus very easy to eat they are usually served with a sauce of your choice we decided to go with the salty butter option this is super super crispy We then moved on to the Kashiya Yokocho, also known as candy alley this place has been around for some time now and has a huge historical significance in 1923 there was a great earthquake in kanto after which tokyo experienced the shortage in supply of japanese candies kasia yokocho with its 70 candy stores became the main candy supplier so this is the sweet potato ice cream sweet potato is super famous here in Kawagoe wow the flavor of the potato is not so strong but you can definitely taste it I think everyone gets this when they come to Kawagoe, so... Eat while it's hot it's like octopus mayonnaise cracker i've tried this before so i know what it tastes like it's really nice actually one of my favorite things to eat at the japanese festival Let's try tastes a bit like okonomiyaki with the sauce there's like soy sauce and mayo combined together but apart from okonomiyaki this also has a very crispy texture must try in kawague as the times changed the stores in casa yokocho started to close and now there are only 20 stores remaining despite that kashiya yokocho has still been voted as one of the 100 "best smelling" places in japan homemade this is the largest snack i've ever seen in my life very nice almost like cotton candy it has the same texture of course it doesn't really melt it's like cotton candy combined with bread Itfeels like eating a cloud today all i've been doing is just eating so i'm kind of full but we had to try this Imoko Manju filled with sweet potato of course because this is quite famous here so.... amazing there's anko(red beans) and sweet potato in it and the the dough is super chewy it is a wonderful wonderful combination seriously i am so surprised this food tour would not be complete without trying cargo's original beer COEDO COEDO was founded by a family which started organic farming with the concept of peace safe and delicious COEDO's goal is not to create beers that are overtly unique but to create balanced craft products by paying attention to the smallest details i'm gonna try this Matsuri Ale made of rice not strong very very mild flavor fresh last but not least we stopped by shaved ice cream store, KOREKAKI the specialty of this store is its natural ice compared to the ice made in the refrigerator making of kurekake's eyes starts in mid-winter and takes a very long time this slow process ensures that the ice is harder to melt and can be shaved into very tiny pieces which gives it almost a fluffy texture same size it also has cream on top makes it more creamy and smooth super nice so how did you like this food tour in kawague saitama i always say that SAITAMA is my favorite prefecture because whenever i come i get the same wonderful experience the japanese people here so next time you're in tokyo and you have some time off make sure to visit KAWAGOE thank you very much see you in the next episode bye
