  • The time has come! We're packing our car. We haven't been camping for a long time.

  • So we're going to do a special camping trip.

  • And hopefully we remembered everything we needed. It's been a while since we camped.

  • [Life in Japan Theme Song]

  • We're pack, huh? Well, we still have more to put in.

  • Still have more to put in. It's tight.

  • Well we just started and it says it will be just about 3 hours to get to Nikko from here.

  • So the adventure has begun!

  • So the Tokyo area has all kind of tunnels that goes under it,

  • And this tunnel is a shortcut from one side of Tokyo, the south side, all the way up to the north side

  • And you just drive under Tokyo. Not very scenic, but fast.

  • Not very scenic at all.

  • Oh we're out of the tunnel! OK!

  • Joshua, do you see Tokyo SkyTree Tower, off to our right! Look!

  • Which right? Which right?! The only right you have!

  • It feels like Redwoods from California.

  • Look at those! Whoa!

  • That's probably the last thing I expected to see here near Nikko: Mount Rushmore!

  • We're camping for 3 nights alongside our friends the Eisenmanns and meeting them at mountain famous for it's views of the area and monkeys.

  • OK, we're on our way up here!

  • Take it easy

  • Going on up!

  • Here we go! Our cable car is coming down to get us!

  • OK- let's go in!

  • [bell rings] oh, here we go! Ok, we're going up now

  • I want to know how many ropeways Japan has.

  • It would be a high number.

  • I wonder if anyone knows how many ropeways does Japan have.

  • It's gotta be the most per capita in the world, man.

  • There's a ropeway everywhere you go.

  • You can see- lookthat town down there. Do you see it?

  • KK's like "check it out!"

  • What's it look like going up there guys?

  • Well, not much. Can you see the top?

  • I can see our camping site.

  • You can see our camping sight?!

  • Ah, look at that mountain, man! What is that mountain?

  • That is a pretty mountain. What is that thing called?

  • Look how steep it is! It is really going up!

  • Well John, would you ski down that if there was enough snow?

  • Wah! It looks pretty steep! I don't know.

  • Alright, here we go guys.

  • Here we are! We made it Caleb! Here we are, walking up the mountain.

  • We made it. That was an easy climb. That was an easy climb!

  • We really only had 20 steps to do.

  • Well, now we have a few more. Oh, and now 20 more! Ah!

  • They have monkeys guys! They have some monkeys!

  • Oh, that's how you go down to see the monkeys, huh? Oh, OK.

  • Wow, look at the monkeys there.

  • [Imitating monkeys]

  • Ok, go down there and see some more? You better be careful though, huh?

  • He's going to get it! Oh look, he got it!

  • Hey! I want it!

  • He's like mad! Are you mad, grumpy-pants?

  • Are you mad, grumpy pants?

  • There's a baby, Daddy! A baby?!

  • That's why they're grabbing! Yeah.

  • One, he grabbed my finger!

  • I was sticking my finger over there and he grabbed it. Ah!

  • So cool.

  • We're the people in the cage here.

  • Yeah right! Did you see that?

  • That's right, the people are in the cage.

  • The people are in a cage and the monkey's are out and about.

  • Yep. They should be feeding us.

  • They should be feeding us! What's the deal? I don't know.

  • He's like "Here here!"

  • This, guys, is a huge view up here!

  • This is such a small view, can we get a higher one?

  • How much higher of a view would you want?!

  • From Mt Fuji! From Mt Fuji?!

  • I think this is higher than Tokyo SkyTree Tower, dude.

  • Did you see the view already? Oh yeah.

  • Where are you going, Dude? Are you going down? Yeah.

  • He's like "I saw it. It's cool. Thanks."

  • Daddy, Mommy did way more scarier stuff.

  • Here we go!

  • Heading down to hopefully... Hopefully the place where we can turn around!

  • And not just into the river. We're like "John, what did you get us into?!"

  • We safely found the camp sight and got setup. We had a beautiful site right alongside the river.

  • John and Silvia were already setup, so they lent us a helping hand.

  • Our campsite is all setup, huh Dude? It is.

  • Look at it — quite the compound! Very cool.

  • Yeah, quite the compound! Thanks for your help, guys!

  • Joshua, did you make yourself comfortable here, it look like?

  • Are you comfortable? That's a nice chair. Just your size, man.

  • Yeah it is! Very nice.

  • Look at the chair! It's like this small.

  • OK Sarah — I think we got our tent setup, huh? Uh huh.

  • Does it look good inside? Oh!

  • Just in time! It's getting dark out!

  • And we're going to do the government game. And you're going to do the government game, oh I know.

  • Oh, I'm going to be more creepier than last time.

  • Oh no! That's a little creepy!

  • That what game? Government game.

  • Oh, we got the stove a burnin'!

  • It's nice to be along with the Eisenmanns! My goodness!

  • Whoa yeah. The professional campers!

  • Oh yeah!

  • A big ol' pot of spaghetti. It's dinnertime. That's right.

  • I want some! Here.

  • My goodness! What kind of crazy light show is going on here?

  • It's too bright.

  • How is it Sarah? Spaghetti!

  • So good?

  • That hurts my eyes.

  • Well Ruth, this is an exciting moment. It is. We finally get to use our sleeping bag.

  • There you go!

  • OK, you guys can play the government game if you want.

  • Becca's the scariest government ever, so prepare watchers (viewers) No, I think I am.

  • Sarah, come now this moment!

  • Wow.

  • Sit down.

  • Anna!

  • I'm scared! Josh, come now!

  • Give me a foot message

  • Anna! Yes?

  • Do you remember saving my life? Yes I do!

  • I saved her life!

  • Sarah was too slow moving her feet and I tripped on her

  • And then I almost fell down... The steps!

  • And there was a road right in front of her... I bumped into her neck, but she saved my life.

  • I know, she almost choked me, but I saved her life.

  • But she complained, I was so disappointed about that!

  • Joshua hit Anna once.

  • Wait...

  • Oh my! Sarah's the government.

  • I guess.

  • Becca! Yes my ma'am.

  • Please sit down!

  • Oh wait, wait wait wait.

  • Anna, come sit down! Yes!

  • Sit down!

  • I'm sorry, I wasn't listening the whole time.

  • Joshua, hit Becca!

  • Oh, there he is... oh! Easy Dude!

  • He hit me like this hard! Becca, you have done that!

  • You have killed the beautifulest fish!

  • Wait wait wait — I killed the beautifulest fish?!

  • At the A-qu-a-ri-em-u (Aquarium)

  • Earlier this year ZenPlus gave us a nice Kleio x NANGA sleeping bag, and we finally have a chance to try it on a real camping trip.

  • I'm excited to see how it does!

  • Oh, this was so comfortable last night.

  • It got cold, and you put it on and just sleep.

  • That's the most important meal of the day: coffee.

  • Where's Joshua?

  • Oh my goodness! Joshua, you're in there? In Daddy's sleeping bag?

  • You're like an alien!

  • So wouldn't you know, this morning Joshua fell into the hot water and he got a burn all the way down his arm.

  • It was more than we could treat just right here, so we had to call an ambulance

  • And they took him to the hospital so he can get treated

  • And hopefully released here real soon

  • The ambulance is going to take Big J to the hospital. Oh man.

  • This is definitely not how we saw the day starting.

  • Hey Big Guy! What did they do, huh?

  • They put a huge bandaid on.

  • That's the biggest bandaid ever, huh?

  • Yeah!

  • Oh my goodness

  • Soon it was back to the campsite where the kids prepared a special surprise.

  • Did you kids do this for him while we were at the hospital? All the kids did this for Joshua.

  • Oh they did? Even Caleb.

  • Turn around. Sit down!

  • In your own chair! You're the government!

  • Give me a high five with that hand!

  • Power up! Give me a high five! A Mario high-five!

  • The doctor said that Joshua got 1st and 2nd degree burns on 5 percent of his body.

  • Fortunately it missed his face and only got his arm and a bit of his side.

  • He will need to take it easy for the next couple of weeks and get his bandages changed by medical professionals.

  • [Singing] We made a card for you.. Just just just just just just just just for you.

  • At least he has a good support team!

  • You just can hold it right quick.

  • 3, 2, 1!

  • They do say laughter is the best medicine!

  • Here's Becca's! We love you so much Joshua!

  • And this is from Caleb, I love you Joshua!

  • Oh KK, awesome! Oh, I did it.

  • We're very thankful for the good care we received from the Japanese Emergency Services,

  • as they got to the campsite fast and found a hospital nearby that would treat Joshua.

  • Thanks to their help and God's blessing, he will make a complete recovery.

  • That's great guys! Thank you for the wonderful cards!

  • Well guys, we're still going to have to do our camping trip with you at some point. That's right.

  • It's an absolutely beautiful campground, but we need to get back so that Big J can make sure that he stays as healthy as possible.

  • And we're going to pack up already, oh my goodness! Not the way we had planned it!

  • Even the campground was generous and returned our money for the remaining unused days, even though they didn't have to.

  • Thanks Kinugawa Hot Spring Auto Camping Ground!

  • I'm glad we're going for Joshua's sake, but boy! It sure a tease just to come out here and see this beautiful area.

  • But we're going to have to come back.

  • Going to explore a little bit before we have to go.

  • None of the kids wanted us to leave, not even Joshua!

  • They really wanted to go see the river before leaving, so we let them say goodbye in their own way.

  • Everybody! When I say "3 2 1" do this.

  • [Singing] Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye

  • And there it went. Bye bye rock.

  • Have a nice life, rock.

  • Is Joshua in? Joshua's in.

  • Right? Yeah.

  • And here's the crew. We're heading home.

  • How's our little patient? He's doing good, isn't he?

  • Are we going to get you home? Hey Daddy!

  • Yeah?

  • Do you know when we sleep tomorrow at home the Luigi Lego Mario is going to come?

  • Today! Oh tomorrow.

  • Tomorrow it's going to come.

  • Today was a long day. Yeah.

  • It felt long. It felt so long!

  • Well! What's going on here? Minecraft! And look at my castle!

  • It is still not done.

  • Are they building the castle for you?

  • Yeah, it's because I'm the government in this game.

  • Oh yea? Yeah, you get to be for a little while, don't you?

  • For a long time!

  • No! It's going to be fast, because he's going to get better fast! That's right!

  • We're still on vacation, but this is not how we imagined we'd be spending the rest of it — is here at home!

  • Momma wrapped him up good.

  • Getting him ready for bed.

  • Dude, he's amazing! He didn't nap, he just kept going all day long!

  • Yes, he's being healed. That's right, I believe it!

  • On next week's episode, we learn the ins and outs of the Japanese medical system.

  • We get some help from Luigi as well as a friend who tracks down the perfect specialist for Joshua.

  • It's all in next week's Life in Japan!

The time has come! We're packing our car. We haven't been camping for a long time.
