  • Hi, I'm Melody Rickets.

  • I'm a party princess and this is how I work it.

  • I'm going to take you through 24 hours of my wellness and beauty routine every weekend I do about three parties.

  • Meet around 80 kids take up to probably like 200 photos, give or take 200 miles that I've traveled.

  • The most rewarding and the most beautiful thing about it is just bringing the magic of these fantasy characters to real life.

  • I try to avoid ever being seen with my car keys or cell phone.

  • Sometimes the kids will ask you like Reggie Park or what kind of car do you drive?

  • And I tell them I came in a carriage and I say that I traveled by sea if I want them to think that I just popped right out of a fairy tale.

  • Good morning at 7 30.

  • Just woke up going to have some coffee, then washed my face and get started for my snow princess makeup today.

  • So I used this wonderful jelly cleanser from drunk elephant.

  • I got it as a tester from Sephora, my birthday and then my roommate brought me a full one because she knew how much I loved it, but I cannot normally afford this.

  • I was so ignorant about, I was like, well I have oily skin, I don't need moisture.

  • It's not true.

  • I don't know how to say this is a day.

  • Cream protein E.

  • So then around 8 30 I start thinking about all the different princesses.

  • I have to be throughout the day.

  • So I have to lay all the costumes out and put them all in my car and all the different makeup that I need.

  • I go and make my coffee nice, strong brew look, I match.

  • It usually takes me about an hour and 15 depending on the character because we're usually out in the sun for princess parties.

  • I'm going to start with this wonderful, wonderful sunscreen, but this is super goop for those of us with oily skin.

  • It doesn't feel oily at all.

  • It's important to have vibrant animated looks right and having a primer really just helps set that all better.

  • I use a primer that has SPF 30 in it, making sure it's really blended into the skin and circular, gentle motions.

  • Really help with that as far as my skin goes more glowy as opposed to matt.

  • If I keep it glowy er and I'm sweating.

  • It's like, oh, she just that highlight, you know what I mean?

  • Since a very young age, I've always covered my friend like completely masked my freckles.

  • I got to a point where I just started loving them.

  • The reason I don't use liquid foundation is because it does no matter what tend to cover up my freckles and I don't want to have them covered anymore and then I'm going to take my favorite, hey good product, which is Gloria.

  • Perez, too much mineral foundation.

  • It kind of acts as a concealer, A lighter color around the eyes.

  • Makes them pop more I've never seen with this little and how to make up.

  • So this is like a good lesson for me and now I'm going to use my favorite concealer which is by nick's and my ex, I don't know which is then we're just going to conceal all of this stuff.

  • Having highlighter adds a level of whimsy and it kind of gives like a doll like effect.

  • Now, time to get very extra with my highlighter.

  • This is my secret.

  • I start with a liquid highlighter and then I put powder highlighter on top of it.

  • So I just put the highlighter all over the high points of my face and the apples of my cheeks.

  • Just tap it really lightly.

  • It will pretty much reflect, no matter where you're looking or where the sun is facing, you can see it when I smile.

  • It's like boom, there they are.

  • And I never stopped smiling and I'm a for instance, so I always try to be so gentle with my blush, especially as a ginger or anyone with fair skin.

  • It's easy to blush.

  • So I'd rather have like intentional blush that way.

  • When I actually do blush, it's not like all that is a red faced princess, you know what I mean?

  • I'm back to my elf blush palette.

  • I'm gonna take these two bottom ones and mix them together.

  • Oh, that's something I do.

  • I put it on my nose.

  • I don't really know why if you really dive deep into fairy tales and folklore, the characters are really young.

  • Having the rosie nous is very much like, oh, cute.

  • So with my blush and a highlighter actually, I just try to round my face out to give it a more gentle youthful look.

  • My eyebrows, I'm so scared, I don't care.

  • And I'm going to take this precise uh flat brush from morphy.

  • Use anesthesia, dip brow pomade whenever I'm using my angle brush to keep it precise is I'll just take a paper towel and I'll like squeeze it really hard and pull it out and then it gets like super, super precise.

  • A lot of the fairy tale characters because they're so young, they haven't really come full form into their brows and they're not filling them in the more natural the better I like to keep my eye shadow looks more neutral tones can be a little overwhelming and a little jarring to have like for example, like hot pink on your eyes.

  • But kids can sometimes be like opposed to makeup.

  • Actually have had kids be a little weirded out there.

  • Why do you have all that on your eyes?

  • Like say stuff like that?

  • So for this character, I just use neutral purples and pinks as opposed to hot pinks or hot purples whenever I'm taking pictures with the kids or at parties, you have to create that cartoony animated smile and that requires, you know, raised eyebrows.

  • Very awake eyes and so I'm going to do eye shadow that really accentuates my eyes because that will help for Princess, I looks the center of your eye is more the focus as opposed to out here.

  • So then the last thing I do for eye shadow is like a shimmery cream color.

  • I really try to go for an effect of making my eyes more deep set.

  • All fairy tale characters kind of have that look.

  • I'll put a little bit of pink underneath my eyes and then I'll mix the purple in.

  • My eyes are a little more on the purple side today, no matter what the heck I do, my makeup looks different every single time.

  • So I put this line of black liner in my top water line and my bottom waterline, It's really gross to watch.

  • Actually, whenever I see videos, people doing this, I'm like, it's in your eyes, gross.

  • And then I put on the slightest amount of mascara.

  • Not like it really matters because I'm putting on fake eyelashes, but you know, I don't use lip liner when I'm Snow Princess because she is really small lips, so I don't need to overdraw them.

  • I can just use my actually small lips and I always use matt lipsticks because gloss is just gonna smear everywhere.

  • Either your wig's gonna get caught in it or kids going to touch your face and it's gonna totally smear or you're gonna be sweating.

  • So keep it locked in with a matte lipstick and now I'm going to do my lashes.

  • I have used duo eyelash glue for as long as I've worn fake eyelashes.

  • I do like A small amount, but not only that, but I let it dry for like 2.00, I can't believe I'm doing this on camera.

  • Okay, I I actually got colored contacts by choice.

  • They're not required because I have brown eyes.

  • Um I'm learning to love myself for it, but most characters have blue eyes or green.

  • I think these are circle lenses.

  • These ones really give the cartoony effect.

  • The very last thing I do to complete my look is a tiny bit of mascara on my bottom lashes.

  • Okay, I just finished my relaxed, it's really early version of my makeup.

  • Next I have to prep my hair in my wig cap, get into my tights and character shoes and get my costume on when you have longer hair and you have to put your wig cap on, you have to take your hair and pin curl it like this with bobby pins all over your head.

  • I can just like just stuff it up and it works.

  • I've done villains.

  • This is fun to be like playful evil and you can be like sarcastic too and they think it's funny because it's part of the character when you're a princess, like, it is so demanding on your patients, like when a kid is being mean, it's really hard to just keep that smile on your face.

  • I've learned to not take the job so seriously that I sacrifice like my emotions if a child is being difficult, it's still in character.

  • But I'll be like, that was not very nice there princess.

  • Like of you, You really shouldn't talk to people that way.

  • And they're never like upset.

  • They never start crying or anything.

  • But I am learning to find the balance between taking it.

  • I mean like I'm dead inside.

  • As opposed to like supposed to be like, you need to be nice and I'm just gonna say it every time I put this wig on, I feel like I should be.

  • I don't know what they're called.

  • Like George George Washington.

  • Like, you know what I mean?

  • Like the judge with the judge wigs.

  • The best way to pin a wig tear head is not with bobby pins.

  • You need to use hairpins because they disappear once you weave them through.

  • And the wig is not hard to pin because there's so much hair that it pretty much covers a lot of baby hairs.

  • You just need two pins here to secure.

  • And then it's pretty much good.

  • I am Like 2-3 sizes bigger than every person I work with.

  • I just breathed and felt my corset Common sift.

  • Mm hmm.

  • So, you know, I'll get them and they're completely tightened and I have to totally undo.

  • It just to get it on my body And then I have to turn around In like a full length mirror and when it's in the car it's like next to impossible.

  • So now it's about 11:00 and I'm heading out the door.

  • The hardest part is probably the driving because we are in our costumes.

  • The horn is brushing against the top of my car every time I move and some of them have petticoat and three skirts and it's a C around you as you can see it covers up beef like park knob.

  • And then I just kind of stuff it and make sure my sleeves are stuck so I can use the steering wheel and We get going.

  • People will honk at you, trying to get you to stop.

  • Oh my God, the son.

  • So I pull up to my party usually about 30 minutes before it begins.

  • I just arrived, took me about an hour to get here, it was raining, but it stopped.

  • The party is a few houses that way and now it is time to gather my many supplies for the day.

  • We'll have snowballs, sometimes we'll play with those.

  • I get a speaker to play my music on and face paints of course, because I do a whole lot of face painting, sometimes an arm and face painting at that point I do any last touch ups to my face and the last pins in my hair.

  • I'm exhausted, but frankly, I don't remember the last time my makeup turned out this good here I am and I'm about to go into my party, go on my little walk to the house and make sure my phone and everything is away.

  • So I get to a party.

  • I do meet and greet.

  • I tell the whole story.

  • I sing every song that I do princess and hero lessons, teach them a damn, play a game face, paint coloring pages, birthday cake, pass out pictures and then go my sister and I actually do princess parties together.

  • Sister princesses.

  • Okay, so party one is over and I'm booking it to my car.

  • Well, I just got back from my party something that's fun about working certain events.

  • It will give you a little thing of food to go and I'm going to eat that red velvet cupcake.

  • I don't go in and get coffee anymore.

  • I'll drive through.

  • But like I'm going to get some Starbucks.

  • When I first started this job, I was so excited about having to go in public and like everyone's gonna see me and I'm like, no one look at me, I have to get gas sometimes and in this ball gown I'm on a time crunch.

  • People don't consider the fact that you're like working to get pictures and it's really hard to say no to a kid, mirror, mirror on the wall.

  • Who's the fairest of them all.

  • Queen Elsa Els hashtag also versus the world is my child.

  • This was when frozen had just come out and all kids cared about was Elsa, I would go, I would show up to a party and the kids would say, where's Elsa?

  • Let me the first thing out of their mouth.

  • Where's Elsa?

  • We want Elsa And it just got so overwhelming and so annoying.

  • So I made this video for my instagram and just put the hashtag on Elsa versus the world because that's what it feels like in the princess community.

  • It's like else is up here to the kids and the rest of the princesses are just like nothing else.

  • I heard of the video I did about you really upset you and well you want to know what I do when people upset me.

  • I let go.

  • Okay, Crazy hair melody here.

  • Just finished my party and I'm gonna get into my green fairy costume after I eat.

  • I will drive to any secluded area I can find and slip and slide into my next costume.

  • My wings are in the back of my car.

  • I'm going to try to put them on by myself, but more often than not I have to ask the mom or whoever is in charge to shove the wings into my back.

  • Sorry, the A.

  • C.

  • Is very loud, but y'all, it's 88 degrees.

  • Summers doing princess parties are very demanding because it is so hot, you're in these tight corsets and these long sleeves or gloves, These heavy wigs, you're moving, you're dancing, you're singing.

  • So at the end of the party, the last thing we do is we all gather around the cake.

  • I leave the happy birthday song, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday to you.

  • And we have any final pictures and then I'll make you know my farewell.

  • I guess it's usually along the lines like good bye everyone.

  • Thank you so much for your time, Have a beautiful day and that I leave all right off I go to my show.

  • So I also am involved in plays and musicals.

  • All right.

  • So I just made it to the dressing room of the show that I'm in and here is the wig that I now have to put on.

  • So yeah, I don't really have time to keep talking because I gotta get ready.

  • But that was my day to parties.

  • And now a show by, by the first thing I do after a long day, princess parties when I get home is order a pizza coconut oil.

  • Really helps me get the matte lipstick off and just get a nice foamy lather of my cleanser and I do it twice.

  • I'm a night owl.

  • So even when I, I am exhausted, I need at least two hours to like write emails.

  • I write my own music, editing pictures from the day or whatever end up getting into bed around probably midnight.

  • Oh, at last it is time for sleep after a very long but fruitful day in the life of a princess.

  • And now sweet dreams and Goodnight.

  • Thank you for watching.

  • Have a magical rest of your day.
