like the mozart melange a coffee and the mozart kugel a chocolate plus we'll taste the classic salzburg dessert that's meant to resemble snow-capped mountains so if any of these dishes sound appetizing we invite you to hit that subscribe button and join us on this austrian food tour across salzburg guten a petite first we're taking you to lunch at hohen salzburg fortress we ate at the panorama restaurant which offers indoor and outdoor dining and what really drew us here were the mountain views okay time for lunch and today we're having a lovely meal at the fortress we just finished visiting and i went for the schweine braten which is oven roasted pork two slices with gravy oh yeah it looks delightful and then it also comes with the bread dumplings and the cabbage i'm a big fan of those bread dumplings especially when you get a gravy sauce me too pork is so tender that is very nice i love the gravy too i think i have a little food envy over here it looks amazing thank goodness for sharing yeah we are sharing this one sometimes you can get it in a soup like in a broth i remember having it that way in tyrol or also just like as a side when you order some kind of meat it's very nice i wish we had bread dumplings in north america what's the deal it hasn't caught on this trend no i guess not last but not least a little sauerkraut mm-hmm can't we have the sauerkraut it comes with almost everything this one's warm oh nice warm sauerkraut cabbage yeah then we would get the classic apple shortly we did that's our our go-to that's our go-to yeah just a very nice meal beautiful views all around us um yeah very happy with our mail selection well guys how could i be here in austria without getting the schnitzel right mm-hmm one of my favorite dishes well when i'm traveling in austria or in germany for that matter i always seem to find a way to figure out a way to get a schnitzel so before i try it i'm going to squeeze the lemon check out that that looks good just makes it taste so much better got a little side salad that goes with it very nice which i'll share with you and now also gotta get some ketchup this is a hard pack to open all right let's try the schnitzel first that is good never gets old love the crispiness on the outside really tender meat i could eat this every day and i'll get tired of it well we came down the funicular and found a nice quiet little alley with quite lane with the blooms we wanted to tell you the price we've been doing a pretty good job of letting you know how much it means yeah how much each meal completely we have yeah lately this time around 36 euros and 70 cents and it was a good meal like that was very filling i feel like we have enough energy to continue with the sightseeing around town it fortified us it gave us fortifications and the views were spectacular like another reason to choose that restaurant especially if you're sitting outdoors on the terrace is the views you get of the mountains of the alps of the exactly the villages it's just what was the drink that everyone was having oh aperol spritz yeah we should probably order that at some point we should continuing our foodie quest to try as many austrian dishes as possible we went to golden ecogo i ordered a dish called crystal which is a potato fry up with bacon onions meats and a fried egg on top the idea behind this alpine dish is that you can get creative and use up some of the items you may have left over in the kitchen okay time for lunch i am very excited for this meal because it is something completely new for me at first glance kind of looks like a scramble with potatoes and we have different cuts of meat in here it came with a fried egg on top that i've just kind of broken apart and it just looks like a really hearty dish very nice to be having on a cold autumn day [Music] that is quite nice wow yeah lots going on a lot going on so what do we got we have a mix of chicken and beef yeah lots of protein lots of carbs also it seems like the kind of dish you could make with like your leftovers yeah if you had leftover potatoes and some meat from the day before just chop it all up fry it in the pan put an egg over it good to go that's really good i like it this is my kind of food you know yeah potatoes make sure your tea hearty awesome food and how about the salad i'm neglecting the salad poor old salad over there it looks like a nice salad with a balsamic dressing i'm gonna balance it out no oh looks like my dish is coming okay how's the salad nice salad yeah balsamic dressing i'm very good meanwhile sam ordered the kaznoken which is a variation of the kesa spatzle the noodles are fried in a pan with cheese and topped with crispy onions and then served in the same pan they were cooked in this is one of the dishes we ordered the most during our travels in austria and germany and it is so good oh guys i'm super pumped about my dish i am having what appears to be like the austrian version of keiser spatula yeah we're not entirely sure if it's called the same thing module noticing a bit of a difference here look at the fantastic amount of cheese that is here look crispy on the outside then you have the noodles at the bottom looks like we have some cut up chives yeah let's take a bite of this you know it looks like they fried it like with the cheese on the bottom got it all crispy and then flipped it over look at that this is one of my favorite dishes in all of germany austria anywhere they serve it and the fact that they have this crispy part on the top just makes it even better love the homemade noodles love the cheesiness aspect of it so so good we also have the orange shortly which we've tried the apple the rhubarb i think we've tried another berry one too but i don't think we've had the orange one yet so if you guys aren't familiar with the chorley that is the the sparkling equivalent of a fruit juice and i just find it really refreshing we tend to order that more than anything else and yeah this is a really nice meal i also like that the portions are kind of medium-sized they're not they're not gigantic so we've we got a lot of sightseeing we want to do today so we don't want to be like going into a food coma and drifting into a food coma so this is just the right size price point price point for that lovely meal quite filling let me tell you yeah so the total was 27 euros for two mains with salads and one drink to share i think that's a pretty good price yeah i'm just gonna join you here i think that might be one of the cheaper meals we've had in a while i remember when we were in munich we were spending what close to 40 to 50 euros we were having more beer i almost felt like it was almost half price or 40 less yeah so good price and yeah we're feeling full ready to explore and continue sightseeing yeah [Applause] [Music] one iconic place we couldn't miss during our visit to salzburg is the mozart cafe here we simply couldn't resist trying the mozart melange a fancy cup of coffee and the nook girl which is a sweet souffle served in soft peaks with powdered sugar and fruit jam okay guys so we are at the mozart cafe and we are starting out with two different coffees i'm going to show you this one because it is extra special it's the mozart coffee the mozart cafe which apparently comes with a liquor bother to look here chocolate chocolate here and whipped cream is it like a hot milkshake chocolate sprinkles more sweet or more coffee like let's see let's stir it around oh that's a nice liquor it's like chocolate and coffee like an irish coffee oh there you go that's a nice affair please do that more often and then also cappuccino they're both very good which one what's what's the winner cream and chocolate i mean how can you go wrong i love these so cookies i remember when we were in vienna i was like scarfing those down on the daily they're pretty good yeah and then we also ordered two small mains and then the dessert which is famous for salzburg very famous dish that we have to show you so we need to save our appetite for that so far so good what do you have it there a delightful pumpkin soup perfect for the fall it was actually in their fall menu so that's how we decided on that very nice with cream and balsamic the other mains coming oh my gosh the desserts being brought for someone else dude i hope you brought your appetite it's enormous good thing we ordered small starters all right sam well friends the good times just keep on coming so we've got red dumpling red them with herbs in a mushroom cream sauce look at that wonderful look awesome again yeah on the fall menu so wait i am taking that for the biggest swim of its life look at that just losing the sauce that is so good it's like a gourmet wild cream mushroom soup with this wonderful red dumpling to soak it all up that's how i describe it okay so we are now trying the typical dessert of salzburg this is called the no girl and it's meant to resemble the three surrounding peaks around the city and it is made with fluffy egg whites cranberries and a dusting of sugar look it's like it's jiggly it's like meringue essentially whoa whoa getting in there this is so fluffy and this is made fresh to order so you have to wait a little bit for it but apparently it's worth the wait i love how it represents the peaks of salzburg so that's so cool the three mountain peaks is it good yeah just like fluffy sweet egg whites yum and this is a dessert that takes a while to prepare it's kind of like the one we had in munich we had to order it 20 minutes before oh yeah the pancakes yeah yeah this is a dessert that you can order again all over the city multiple cafes specialize in it it's definitely something to share something to share and something to enjoy slowly it is sweet it is priced as a maine too yeah you pay about the same as you would for a nice main dish so bring a friend bring an appetite yeah i'm glad we tried it well samuel price points for that lovely meal stand by the flowers she said it would look nicer it is nice nicely framed so lovely flowers and that was a lovely lunch so basically it came to just under 40 euros no 40 years old exactly got a bit of cranberry there oh whoops yeah what a tasty dessert oh my gosh sorry guys um so yeah so that included the two drinks the cappuccino the fancy mozart drink that also included the two savories and the gigantic dessert to share so overall excellent value yeah 20 euros per person that's what we'd recommend doing as well kind of go have a little bit of a savory bite and then dig right into that dessert yeah and i'll mention like half the bill was just the dessert yeah more or less i think i think that one was like 15 euros almost half the bill yeah yeah but uh highly recommended and it was a very nice classy cafe too it just felt really nice to be in there yeah so it was just very quiet like you know whisper quiet soft classical music we went there quite early we were there around 11ish so that's also one of the reasons it was quiet inside next up we're introducing you to the mozart cool or the mozart ball this sweet confection was created in salzburg in 1890 and it makes the perfect gift to take back home all right guys so here we are with a very special bag of chocolate so one thing that you absolutely have to try here in salzburg is the mozart kugel it's a little ball of chocolate that is filled with marzipan and pistachios so we got this as a little gift to take back home and we bought some individual chocolate balls i believe they were euro 50 right yeah one euro 50 each you get a little bit of a discount euro 50. here we go look at that and these are sold all over town you're going to see them in the in the window displays and so many shops so it looks like this one is a dark chocolate one there's so many varieties like you can get milk chocolate you can get dark chocolate you can get it with marzipan you can get it without marzipan you can't mix bag we just grabbed some chocolate honestly this looks like you're a poison choose your adventure i'll take the other half how's that if you like marzipan that's actually very very nice marzipan is like um like an almond paste a sweet almond paste you can buy like little marzipan figurines to eat they're shaped like little animals and blueberries the museum we went to many years ago they had like a 100 kilogram one what was that we went to a marzipan museum hungary hungary and tender yes the museum from budapest yeah so yeah very good this is what they look like they come in like um a light blue wrapping and i'm telling you all over town you don't need to look very hard to find one perfect gift to take home huh and last but not least we wanted to show you that you can experience an alpine style lunch on a mountain top just in the outskirts of salzburg if you watched our hiking in austria video then you've already seen this meal but we thought it was worth including in this food guide this restaurant is called gwasinbirst house and it's located atop geysburg it's a 30-minute bus ride from the city center to the mountain peak and you can easily combine it with a day of hiking made it to the top cheers i was just going to say when you climb a mountain i'm pretty sure that entitles you to a half a liter of beer at least that's what the rules we live by can't wait to try this this is the local draft oh so exciting ice cold beer at the top of the mountain we've earned it you know what that's never beers never tasted so good and i'm not saying this is the best beer i've ever had in my life but this is a moment where the beer just tastes fantastic and this is so good and it's just so nice to have gone for a hike again today and had this weather we've got some amazing food coming so just wait for that the dish i ordered is called marind and it's more of an assorted snack spread than a single dish it is usually served on a wooden block and it includes a mix of mountain cheeses cured meats sausages bread and more back in the day this used to be the meal of choice for farmers and shepherds who spent their days working in the mountains guys lunch is here could i be any happier about this i don't know could i i like like i had the biggest smile on my face of all time i'm so hungry and look at what we got looks amazing so we got the snacking board which comes with various meats um some hot peppers mountain cheese grapes actually a whole bunch of different cheeses walnuts berries eggs basically everything you'd ever need plus bread a basket of bread and then for the maine we went for a classic that you just can't make we've already been digging in look there's a there's a there's a missing section yeah that is two corners the quesadilla the noodles with the melted cheese and oh my gosh try it all for them there's also a salad yeah there is it's a little neglected at the moment noodles are fantastic yeah you cannot go wrong with those ever ever and well this spread i guess i should begin here let's grab some bread yeah break it in half customize it maybe why don't we grab this cheese right here yep spread some of that on it let's grab one of these prosciutto huh make a little sandwich wonderful wonderful yeah everything's so good we're gonna eat it all too i'm in my happy place right now there's no way [Music] all right so i've been tasked with trying different things in you yeah so try a little bit of this herb cream cheese you had like a spreadable one there oh that's nice and thick look at that all right what should i pair it with what should how about some berries or olives or grapes okay get a bit of berries on there those little red berries how about a walnut a walnut and an olive there you go right on the sandwich that's it just an eclectic mix huh let me get it all so i can have it in one bite one bite one biter how's that it's actually pretty good that's a really eclectic assortment of flavors colors ingredients and textures in the mouth oh we somehow managed to finish it all huh we did manage to eat every last bite that was amazing i'm so full so good it's amazing i feel like i'm saying this a lot but again one of my favorite meals here and the setting is just amazing just outside of salzburg go up the mountain and voila that's what you have here so it was 35 euros total for two beers half a liter each the snacking board and the large portion of the keizer spatzler and yeah amazing we're leaving you stuffed or satisfied i feel like i'm satisfied i feel like i'm stuffed i probably helped finish the last bit that maybe i could have left and that's a look at everything we ate during our trip to salzburg we hope you enjoyed the video as much as we enjoyed the food and hopefully now you have a better idea of some of the austrian dishes you can try during your visit if you enjoyed this video don't forget
