I wanna be a dentist one day! - You'd be a real tooth doctor 'cause you're a tooth and a doctor. But dentists are helpers. They help us keep our teeth strong, and clean, and healthy. - Yeah. I wonder if there's a way we can remind Julia what happens when we visit the dentist? - Yeah. Oh, what if we play dentist? - Play? - Yeah, do you wanna play, Julia? - Play, play! - Great, let's try. - Yeah. - And I know just what we need to play. We can use this toy alligator. - Using a puppet to learn about the dentist, go figure. - So who's the dentist here? Are you the dentist? - No. - I'll be the dentist. - Okay. Then I will be the alligator patient. - Oh, okay. And Elmo will be the sound effects. - So, let's play. - Yeah! - Hello alligator, I'm your dentist, Dr. Charlie. - Hello, Dr. Charlie. - Time for your checkup. - Please have a seat in my dental chair. - Okay. - So you see Julia, there are special kinds of chairs at the dentist's office. They can make you go up. (Elmo whistling) Or down. (Elmo whistling) - Nice sound effects, Elmo. - Thank you. - I'm going to start by counting your teeth. Open wide, please. - (gasps) No, no, no. - Oh no, no, no. It's okay, Julia. The dentist needs to see the alligator's teeth. - Can you let me look, Julia? - Mm mm. - Oh, oh, oh, oh, what if we use magic words? - Magic words? - Yeah, yeah Julia. Oh, like one, two, three, open sesame. - Open sesame! - Yeah! - Ah, thank you, Julia. - There sure are a lot of teeth. I'm gonna use one of my pretend dental tools to help me count them. You can count with me. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. - 20! - It's a real mouthful. - Now I, the dentist, will clean the teeth. Are you ready? - Ready. - Then, one, two, three, open sesame. (all laughing) This is a little straw that sucks out any extra water in his mouth. (Elmo slurping) And now I'll clean the teeth with a special kind of toothbrush. - Oh yeah, the toothbrush makes a buzzing sound like this. (Elmo buzzing) - And soon, (Elmo slurping) it's all done! (all laughing) - Hey, my teeth feel so clean. - They look clean. - Well, you know what Dr. Price always says? - [All] Sparkle city! - Sparkle. - Oh, but you know what, Charlie? It's time to get you to the dentist. - Okay. Can Julia come with us? Then she can see what it's like at Dr. Price's. - Oh, I think that's a great idea. - You'll like Dr. Price, Julia. Dr. Price is so nice. - Do you wanna come along, Julia? - Come along, yes. - All right. Then we'll go to your house and check with your mom, all right? Let's go. See the giant teeth and the giant toothbrush. - [Charlie] They're so big and bright. - Hello, Charlie. How are you today? - I'm good, Dr. Price. How are you? - Well I am fantastic. Allen, it is so nice to see you again. - You too. And this is our friend Julia. She came along to see what it was like at the dentist. - Oh, well welcome, Julia. I'm so happy you came. So first, we are gonna put this special bib on Charlie here. - Bib? - Now it is not like a baby bib. This is made of paper and it will help keep Charlie's clothes clean and dry. And now I'm gonna bring the chair up and back. (Julia whirring) Yeah, it makes it sound just like that, Julia. Here, listen. (chair whirring) - Whee! - Quite the ride, huh? There we go, okay. So now I am gonna put this light right over Charlie so I can see her teeth clearly. Now this light is gonna be very bright, but I have these special sunglasses you can wear. Huh, what do you think? Right. - Okay Julia, does that feel okay? - Mm hm. - Hey, that is a cool look on you, Julia. Okay, you ready? Light is going on now. Great, okay. So now next, I am gonna put on these gloves, and I am gonna put on a face mask and a face shield. And these are gonna help keep everyone healthy and clean. Here comes this shield. Great. Now I am gonna start Charlie's checkup by counting her teeth. And I am gonna use this little mirror to help me see all of the teeth. And look, even lights up. Isn't that great? Okay, you ready, Charlie? Open wide. - Magic words? - Oh yes. We decided that the magic words are one, two, three. - [Both] Open sesame. - Hey, I love that. Okay, well, one, two, three, open sesame. Hey, it works. Okay, let's see how many teeth you have. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 beautiful teeth. Now I am gonna clean Charlie's teeth. And I am gonna need some help from a friend here, Mr. Thirsty. - Remember Julia, it gets all the extra water outta my mouth. (Julia slurping) - Yeah, Mr. Thirsty does sound exactly like that. Okay. One, two, three, open sesame. And now I am gonna clean Charlie's teeth by using this special toothpaste. This might feel a little different from the toothpaste you have at home. See? And it comes on a very stylish ring. Okay, and I'm gonna use this special toothbrush. (Julia buzzing) Yeah, that's right, Julia! You got it. And I'm gonna turn it on now. Let us clean those teeth, Charlie. All right, all done, Charlie. Your teeth are looking healthy and clean. Now let's see 'em. Oh, look at that smile, sparkle city. - Sparkle city. - Sparkle. - Right. And I have a little goody bag for you to take home. - Thank you. - And I also have one for you too, Julia. - Oh look, Julia. You got a new toothbrush, and some fluoride toothpaste, and a sticker. - Woo! - It was so nice to meet you, Julia. Maybe someday I'll see you here in the dental chair. Huh? - Do you wanna come visit Dr. Price, Julia? - Nice. - Oh, thank you, Julia. Oh, I can't wait to see you again. - Well, I will have Julia's mommy set up an appointment. - That's great, Allen, thanks. - Okay, let's go. - Bye, Dr. Price. - Bye, Charlie. Now remember to keep them clean by brushing them twice a day. I'll show you how. Use only a little bit of toothpaste, like this. And then brush in little circles like this. Make sure to brush the tops, bottoms, fronts, and backs of your teeth. Don't swallow the toothpaste. Okay, time to suction. (Samuel slurping) There, all done. Brush like this twice a day and your teeth will stay clean and healthy. - (giggling) Great work, dentist Samuel. Elmo's gonna brush his teeth just like that. D is for dentist. We are at the dentist. It's time for my checkup. A dentist is a doctor that takes care of your teeth and helps keep them clean, healthy, and strong. My dentist uses special tools. There are big tools, like the x-ray machine for taking pictures of my teeth. And small tools, like the dental mirror so she can see my back teeth easily. And the coolest thing is the chair. It goes up and down, and even tilts back. This chair is very comfy. I wear glasses to protect my eyes. The light is very bright. My dentist wears a mask and gloves. Now she needs to check my teeth. So I open wide. My dentist uses a pick to count my teeth and check each one. Now she cleans my teeth with a very special brush. It buzzes. The suction device is a very useful tool. It clears away the extra water in my mouth. Now my dentist flosses my teeth carefully. Flossing is important because it cleans between my teeth when my toothbrush can't reach. And when we are done, there is a little sink for me to rinse out. Finished, all clean. And it's really important to brush and floss my teeth twice a day at home to keep them healthy too. Visiting the dentist is fun. I like keeping my teeth clean and healthy. D is for dentist. The letter D. - Hello, Cookie Monster. - Oh hi, Elmo. What you got there? - Elmo has some crunchy fruits and vegetables. Elmo's dentist says that they will keep Elmo's teeth healthy and strong. - Boy oh boy, they look crunchy and delicious. Num num, num num. - Would Cookie Monster like to try some? - Oh yes, please and thank you. Num, num, num, num, num, num, num. (Cookie Monster chomping) - Cookie Monster! - Oh, you right, me forgot crunchiest part. - Huh? (Cookie Monster chomping) Oh, they playing me song. Bye bye, Elmo. I'm Sophia. And my dentist says to eat crunchy fruits and vegetables to keep my teeth healthy and strong. Can you help me by making a crunchy snack with celery? - Of course we can help you because we are... - [Both] Monster foodies! - Okay, so what kind of celery snack we going to make? - Ooh, celery butterflies! - Wait a minute, celery butterflies? - Uh huh. - Oh, adorbs. Wow, so what we need to make celery butterflies, Chef Gonger? - Well let's take a little lookie lookie at the recipe. To make celery butterflies we need celery, cream cheese, sliced apples, and pretzels. - Okay, we got cream cheese, sliced apples, pretzels, and uh oh, we no got celery stalks. - What happened to the salary stalks, Cookie Monster? - They stalked away. (laughs) Get little joke to lighten the mood. (Gonger growling) Okay, me ate them. - Oh, Cookie Monster! We need the celery to make the celery butterflies! The clue is in the name. Okay, look. We need to go to the celery farm to get more celery. Come on, let's go! And don't touch the food! - Sorry, right, yeah. (funky music) - [Both] To the celery farm. ♪ Celery farm, celery farm ♪ ♪ Going to the celery farm ♪ - Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Here we are at the... - [Both] Celery farm! - [Cookie Monster] Hello, celery farmer. We need celery to make crunchy butterfly snack. Can you help us, please? - Hello, Cookie Monster and Gonger. Welcome to the celery farm. Sure, I can help you. Celery is a vegetable that grows out of the ground. These large celery plants start out as tiny seeds. The seeds are planted in soil and they're put inside a place called a greenhouse. With time, they start to grow into small plants. When they're a little bigger, we plant the celery outside. There's lots of celery to plant, so we use a big machine called a transplanter to help us. The celery grows and grows, with long green stalks, until finally it's time to pick them. The celery is cut, the bottom is trimmed, and some of the leaves are trimmed off the top. They get packed into boxes and stacked onto a truck. Then they're sent to the store, where people can buy them and bring them home. The celery is crunchy and delicious. Here's some celery for your butterfly snacks. - Thank you, Ms. Farmer ♪ Celery, celery ♪ ♪ We're going home with celery ♪ Okay, Chef Gonger. We got celery all washed and clean. Now, me wonder, how we make celery butterflies? - Well, this is a wild idea, but what if we check the recipe? - Yes, let's try that. - Okay. So first we cut the celery into short pieces. - Got it. Cowabunga! - Then we fill the middle with cream cheese. Then we use the apple slices and the curly pretzels for the wings. - There we go. - Oh, and straight pretzels for the antennae. - I'm sorry, the antennae? - [Gonger] Yeah, those two little sticky up thingies on top of the little butterfly's head. - Oh, pretzel antennae. Wow, celery butterflies so easy and so adorable. - Yeah, what a cutie. Oh, oh, oh, oh, ow. It's ready! (gong booming) - Bye bye, butterflies. - Fly like the wind, baby. Oh Cookie Monster. (Grover laughing) A doctor would be, would be... Oh, I am sorry, I do not know what a doctor is. - It's okay, Grover. What do we do to learn something new? - [Both] We look it up. - Let's get a checkup on doctors. - [Narrator] Doctors help you get better when you're sick. If you're hurt, or when you just need a regular checkup. Pediatricians are doctors that help kids. Pediatricians use all kinds of tools, like an ear thermometer to check your temperature. They listen to your heart with a stethoscope. - [Grover] Sounds good, doc. - [Narrator] And check inside your mouth and throat with a tongue depressor. Sometimes doctors give you shots to keep you from getting sick. There are all kinds of doctors, like dentists who take care of your teeth, or optometrists who take care of your eyes. No matter the kind of doctor, they all wanna help you be healthy. - Boy, being a doctor is really important. They help people every day. Hey, that gives Elmo an idea. Oh, oh, oh, let's play a game together. - Oh yes, I love games! Yeah, let's play a game. - [Elmo] Are you ready to give this little monster a checkup? The doctor needs to check their heartbeat, look in their mouth, and take their temperature. - [Grover] Well, first the doctor needs to check the patient's heartbeat using the rubber chicken. - The rubber chicken? - Grover. A rubber chicken isn't the right tool to check heartbeats. - [Grover] No problem, we will simply try again. - [Elmo] What if we try the stethoscope? (heart beating) - [Grover] Sounds good. Now it is time to check the monster's mouth. - [Elmo] What should the doctor use? - Use the stick. - Use the tongue depressor. - [Grover] Ah, looks good. - [Elmo] The last thing the doctor needs to do is check the patient's temperature. - A thermometer. - Yay! We helped the doctor give a checkup. (both laughing) Boy, Elmo loves learning about doctors. - Mm, me too. - Hey, that makes Elmo wonder even more. Does Mr. Noodle know about doctors? - Noodle? Oh, no spaghetti for me, thank you. - No Grover, Mr. Noodle. Let's ask him. Hey, Mr. Noodle! Oh, it's Mr. Noodle's sister, Miss Noodle. Hi, Miss Noodle. - Hi, Miss Noodle. - Miss Noodle, do you know what a doctor wears? You do? Show us what a doctor wears. - [Kids] Yeah, show us.
