The fastest way to climb to high ground is by building 90-degree turns, or "90s." This building pattern uses two walls, one floor, and one ramp. Each floor and ramp boosts you upward as you run and jump. 90s are difficult to get right, so take it slowly and use the clickable sections below to keep track of which step you're on during this tutorial. Movement is an important part of good 90s. You need to sprint forward during the entire motion and make each turn from the same position. To develop clean and consistent 90s, first practice this movement drill. Place a floor above ground level and run around the edge without stopping or slowing down. Try to get as close to each corner of the floor as possible. Once you can perform this drill, the next step is to place ramps and floors every time you turn. This building pattern alone is often faster than improper 90s. Once you can build these running 90s consecutively without mistakes, your next goal is to perform one single jumping 90. From this position on your ramp, run forward, turn 90 degrees to the right, place two walls, and then jump. As you jump, look down slightly to place a floor and ramp. Notice that your crosshair should line up with the two walls you placed before. As you practice this movement, build a second ramp as you run through the 90 before trying again. This gives you space to reposition before the next attempt. Once your single 90s feel comfortable, try to chain them together. While you practice, make sure to run forward through the whole motion. 90s are very timing-dependent. If you stop moving or slow down, it will take much longer to learn the pattern. Just like the first step, it may be easier to run close to the edge of your ramps. You might jump off the edge of your ramp and fall. That means you're jumping too soon. Make sure to jump after you turn and place the two walls. As you speed up your 90s, you can improve them even more by focusing on positioning and timing. By running on the edge of each ramp, you give yourself more time to prepare for the next jump. But when you feel ready, try positioning yourself closer to the middle of each ramp and jump much sooner. These 90s are much faster, but it's also easier to make mistakes if your movement and building timing aren't perfect. To make these faster 90s more consistent, try to delay placing the last ramp. This improves the upward boosting effect and reduces the chances of getting stuck underneath a ramp. For the last finishing touch, you'll need to understand jump fatigue. When you jump repeatedly, each jump after your second jump will be slightly weaker. If you can't jump as high on your third 90, you will end up trapped under a ramp. To avoid that, you'll need to change your positioning after every second 90. Notice here that on each third 90, the player is closer to the edge of the ramp. From here, you can reset jump fatigue by building a running 90. From that point, you can continue the pattern of three jumping 90s and one running 90.
