Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles (both giggling) - Oh, hi, I'm Amanda. - I'm Gabrielle. - And I am. I am. (pants) Ugh. Both out of breath and very late. I am so sorry. - Hi, Grover. We were just about to share the Word of the Day with everyone. - Oh! Do not worry. I will handle this, Amanda. Today's word is. Is, uh. Um. - Today's word is upstander. - Upstander is an important word. - Yes, it is. Because being an upstander means you are done sitting down. Yes. - (chuckles) No. - No. No? Oh, right. An upstander is the little flippy thingy on your bicycle. - That's a kickstand, Grover. - Mm. Are you sure? I am pretty good with words, Amanda. - I am sure. And hey, being an upstander- - Means standing on your tippy toes, as tall as you can. (cymbal crashes) Whoa! - (chuckles) Grover, that's still not it. - It is not? - Mm-mm. - An upstander is someone who uses their kind words or actions to help their friends or themselves when they're being treated unfairly and unkindly. - Treated unfairly and unkindly? - Sometimes people are treated unfairly because of the color of their skin, the shape of their eyes, the language they speak, or because of their religion. - An upstander treats everyone with kindness, fairness, and respect. - So if someone were to say something unkind to you, Amanda. Or you, Gabrielle, about your brown skin, I would say, that is wrong. And all skin is beautiful. - That's being an upstander, Grover. - And if someone says I can't play with them because of the way I look, I can be an upstander for myself and tell them that's wrong and not fair. - Sure. We can all play together. (Grover laughs) - Those are great examples of being an upstander for yourself and others. Thank you to all the upstanders out there. - Yes. - [Grover And Gabrielle] Thank you. (bright upbeat music)
