Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles These steps work for both Mac and PC. Go to Google Maps in a web browser. Type your location into the search bar, then click on the "Layers" button on the bottom left of the screen. Click on "Terrain" to show topography and elevation. Make sure that "View topography and elevation" is turned on in the terrain slider at the bottom of the map. You can toggle it on and off by clicking on the slider. Zoom into the area on the map where you want to see the elevation. The numbers will appear as you get closer. But be careful not to zoom in too far as the contour and elevation lines will disappear. You can do this in either the Google Maps app or through a browser on your mobile device. But we found that the contour lines on the mobile browser version are easier to read, so we will show you that method. Go to Google Maps in a browser. Type in your location in the search bar. Click on the menu bar then select "Terrain." Elevation lines will appear as you zoom in and out. Note that the numbers may be faint as they are written into the contours of the map.
