Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles My name is Freyja Eagling, I am 18 years old and this summer I am going back in time to the golden age of piracy. Arr! Is that right, me hearty? Freyja is my daughter and this summer we are going to be part of the English Heritage Pirates shows at Pendennis, Dover and Scarborough Castles. The Pirates shows include firepower displays with pistols, muskets and in some cases even cannons. There will be sword fights. Plenty of displays to keep everyone interested, trying to debunk the myths that Hollywood has created about pirates. And a bunch of hands-on pirate activities for the kids as well. If you can name a pirate, the chances are they come from the golden age of piracy. Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Bart Roberts, Black Sam Bellamy, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Calico Jack Rackam, these are all Golden Age pirates. They were stealing, plundering, there was a lot of fighting going on at the same time as well and the Royal Navy probably had its hardest challenge yet. Being a pirate in the summer of 2022 is hot! So buttons are an important part of the outfit for someone showing off their wealth. There isn't a left or a right shoe. Either shoe can go on either foot. So this is what a standard male sailor would have worn in the 18th century instead of wasting money on things they wouldn't necessarily need they would just work with what they had. As a woman instead of fighting in the dress it's better to fight in a pair of sailor's slacks. For this event I'm most looking forward to being able to run out onto a battlefield with swords clanging and guns firing and generally being able to stand there and go, I'm a woman and I'm fighting on a field with the men. So if you come to any of the three events you can expect a full day of piratical amusement, you can expect to see swordswomanship, you can expect to see guns going bang, myth-busting about pirates, anything that the media has portrayed as glamorous we will try and debunk and show you the truth about piracy. Yarr! To try and talk like a pirate I would suggest emphasising any R's in any words. That will definitely bring out the pirate side in your voice. To talk like a pirate what you have to do is name random bits of pirate ship like the mast or the boom or the steering wheel or the gunnel or the gun deck and every now and then add in an insult about your opponent being a jellyfish brain. Hoist the colours up into the sky lads it's time to sail the seas. Splicing the main brace. Arr! Got it? Got it. Arr! Arr!
