One of the neutral creams was labeled lidocaine pain relieving. One of the neutral creams was labeled capsaicin heat intensifying, and one of the neutral creams was labeled neutral. They were then all touched with a hot object where the cream was put on their skin and their brains were studied. These people recorded decreased pain, but also their brain scans found that their brains mimicked the actual feeling of having less pain. These people reported more heat, pain and their brain also mimics specific pathways as if there was more pain. This is an amazing study showing a placebo does actually change teen brain.
