  • and it's like, I'm right in the middle of the action!

  • Smartie was reading a book about the circus.

  • Because Elmo wants to find out all about books.

  • - What do we do to learn something new?

  • - [Elmo, Smartie & Children] We look it up!

  • - Getting a read on books!

  • Here we go!

  • Oh, wow!

  • There are all kinds of books.

  • Chapter books.

  • Picture books.

  • Comic books.

  • And even coloring books!

  • - [Elmo] Yeah, cool!

  • - [Smartie] There are even books

  • you can read on a screen, like mine.

  • (Elmo giggles)

  • Some books tell you how to do things.

  • Books can tell you lots of things

  • about different places and people.

  • And there are books of made up stories

  • about pretend places and imaginary people.

  • You can even write books of your own!

  • Anyone can be an author.

  • - Oo, oh, ho, ho, ho!

  • Cool!

  • Books really are amazing.

  • - They sure are!

  • Okay, got a book it Elmo!

  • I can't wait to find out (bouncing bloops)

  • how the story I'm reading turns out!

  • - Thank you Smartie, buh bye! (descending xylophone)

  • Boy, anybody can write a book huh?

  • He eh eh hay, that gives Elmo and idea!

  • Come on, let's play game together.

  • Yeah (giggles) come on, come on!

  • Let's write our own story!

  • First, we got to decide where our story takes place.

  • It could be at a jungle or at a pirate ship

  • or in a restaurant!

  • - [Children] Pirate ship!

  • - [Elmo] Pirate ship, okay!

  • So once upon a time, (digital beeps)

  • on a pirate ship, there was a pirate.

  • The pirate wanted to play a game!

  • Should we have the pirate play catch,

  • hopscotch or tic tac toe?

  • - [Children] Catch!

  • - [Elmo] Catch? Okay!

  • The pirate needs someone to play catch with!

  • - [Boy] A shark.

  • - [Girl] Yeah, a shark!

  • - [Elmo] A shark! (digitizing effects)

  • That's a great idea! (descending woodwinds)

  • And they play catch happily ever after!

  • The end.

  • (giggling) Wow! Great job, we did it!

  • (buoy bell rings) (chimes tinkling)

  • Boy, that makes Elmo wonder even more!

  • Does Mr. Nudo know about books?

  • Oh, let's ask him.

  • Hey Mr. Nudo!

  • (ting giggling) (curtain hooks rattling)

  • - [Girl] That's not a book! (surprising trumpet)

  • That's a watermelon! (low bell ding)

  • - [Elmo] Show us how you read a book!

  • - [Boy] That's not a book either.

  • - [Girl] He's reading a bottle of milk!

  • (triangle ringing) - That's not a book,

  • that's a milk bottle!

  • (giggling) Books have pages!

  • Mr. Nudo where's your book?

  • - [Girl] It's little! (descending trumpet)

  • It's a itty bitty book!

  • - [Elmo] How are you ever gonna read a book that small?

  • (warbling flute) (whistle blows)

  • (objects rattling) (squeezing plastic pop)

  • A great idea!

  • (giggling) Oh, Elmo guesses you can read a book that way!
