Hello Jennifer from Tarle speech with your two for Tuesday homophone lesson.
Homophones are words that are pronounced the same way, they just have different spellings
and different meanings. Our words today are tide which is the rise and fall of the sea
or a brand name of laundry detergent and tied attached bonded or fastened.
Three little sounds today. Let's start with that t. Touch the tip of the tongue to the
spot where your teeth meet the skin on the roof of your mouth. Air puffs out.
Then we're going to move to that long i sound. To do this open your mouth wide.
Your tongue is going to move to low. The tip of the tongue will be low in the front of the mouth.
Back of the tongue will be pulled way high up. Then you're going to close your mouth.
I. As you close your mouth to a smile, your tongue will end high and flat in your mouth.
Then touch the tip of the tongue to the back of those top front teeth again for that d.
D. Air puffs out. Your voice box is on and moving for that d sound.
Let's put it all together: t-i-d
t-i-d t-i-d
tied tide tied tide tied tide
And now for a sentence:
The captain tied empty Tide bottles to the boat to protect the ship
from the dock during the rising tide.
Give it a try people are going to notice the difference.
