In the fatal shooting on the rust movie set, prosecutors announced on january 19th 2023 citing a criminal disregard for safety, baldwin pointed a pistol at cinematographer Helena Hutchins when the gun went off killing her and wounding the director, Joel Souza, the weapons specialist, Hanna Gutierrez Read is also being charged.

Involuntary manslaughter can involve a killing that happens while the defendant is doing something lawful but dangerous.

The charge is 1/4 degree felony, punishable by up to 18 months in jail and a $5000 fine under new Mexico law.
