I wanna see, I wanna see them dancing.

Before Halle Bailey became a part of your world as Ariel in The Little Mermaid,

she started out as one half of the musical duo Chloe x Halle, with her sister, Chloe Bailey.

In 2011, they began uploading their own covers of popular songs,

quickly developing a loyal following on YouTube.

One cover in particular, Pretty Hurts, caught the attention of Beyoncé,

who signed them to her management company to produce full studio albums.

But Halle wasn't just singing during her childhood.

She had some acting credits,

appearing in episodes of House of Payne and as a choir girl in the Disney made-for-TV movie Let It Shine.

Chloe x Halle continued to dominate the music industry,

thanks to their albums The Kids Are Alright and the Grammy-nominated Ungodly Hour,

and became series regulars on the Black-ish spin-off series Grown-ish.

Halle played Sky Forster, a talented and ambitious track athlete alongside her twin sister, Jazz.

and show her transformation from a guarded, highly competitive athlete

Turns out that Halle's singing career would come in handy.

After director Rob Marshall saw Halle perform at the 2019 Grammys,

he thought she'd be perfect for the role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

It made perfect sense to utilize Halle's incredible vocal range and endearing charisma to bring to life a Disney icon.
