ONCE IS THE MOTHER SURVIVED, BUT DIED FOUR DAYS LATER. THE AGES ARE 11 MONTHS TO 13 YEARS OLD AND THEY WERE RESCUED FRIDAY. WE HAVE A REPORTER AND RESEARCHER FOR THE INDIES BUREAU OF THE "THE NEW YORK TIMES" AND SHE HAS BEEN FOLLOWING THE STORY FROM COLUMBIA. THIS IS SUCH AN INCREDIBLE STORY. I THINK THE FIRST THING PEOPLE WONDER IS HOW ARE THESE YOUNG CHILDREN, INCLUDING ONE WHO WAS UNDER THE AGE OF ONE-YEAR-OLD AND TURNED ONE WHILE IN THE JUNGLE. HOW THEY SURVIVE FOR 70 DAYS ON THEIR OWN. >> THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME. TWO CHILDREN HAD BIRTHDAYS DURING THIS ORDEAL IN THE JUNGLE. THE OTHER TURNED FIVE. A LOT OF DETAILS ARE STILL COMING OUT ABOUT HOW THEY SURVIVED. THE CHILDREN ARE IN THE HOSPITAL RECOVERING. WE KNOW THEY LIVE ON AN INDIGENOUS RESERVE IN A REMOTE AREA IN THE AMAZON. THERE USE TO AN INFORMANT LIKE THIS. RELATIVES HAVE SET THE 13-YEAR- OLD GIRL LESLIE KNEW THE JUNGLE WELL AND THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN HOW TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES IN AN ENVIRONMENT WITH THIS. MORE SO THAN YOUR AVERAGE KID FROM THE CITY. SO FAR THE DETAILS THAT HAVE COME OUT ARE THAT THEY SURVIVED ON CASSAVA FLOUR. THEY HAD IT WITH THEM ON THE PLANE. EATING FRUITS IN THE AMAZON JUNGLE THAT THEY FOUND. THE KIDS SAID THEY HID IN TREE TRUNKS DURING RAIN STORMS. WHICH THIS AREA SEES A LOT OF. >> AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THEY WILL BE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR A FEW WEEKS. DO WE KNOW HOW THEY ARE DOING >> OFFICIALS HAVE SAID THEY ARE IN REMARKABLY GOOD HEALTH. AS FAR AS INJURIES GO, THEY HAVE A FEW CUTS AND SCRAPES, BUT NOTHING MORE. NUTRITIONALLY, THEY HAVE A WAY TO GO. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN EATING WELL. THE LAST WE HEARD THEY WERE NOT YET EATING SOLID FOOD. THEY WERE BEING REHYDRATED. IT TAKES A WHILE TO REINTRODUCE FOOD INTO THE BODY AFTER NOT úB THIS TIME. THEY SAID THEY ARE EXPECTED TO MAKE A FULL RECOVERY AND ARE DOING AMICABLY WELL THEY ARE ASKING TO PLAY AND READ. THEY ARE CHATTING. IT IS ENCOURAGING. >> WHAT ABOUT THEIR DAD? WHAT IS HE ASKING FOR FROM THE COLOMBIAN GOVERNMENT? >> THE FATHER- THE CHILDREN AND THE MOTHER WERE ON THE AIRPLANE BECAUSE THE FATHER HAD FLED THE AREA BECAUSE OF THREATS FROM ARMED GROUPS. HE THOUGHT HIS LIFE WAS UNDER RISK. THEY WERE GOING TO JOIN HIM AND ULTIMATELY LIVE IN GOT TO WITH HIM. HE IS SAYING HE IS STILL UNDER THREAT FROM A DISSIDENT GROUP. THE LARGEST INSURGENT GROUP IN COLUMBIA UNTIL 2016 WHEN THERE WAS A LANDMARK PIECE DEAL. THEY DISARMED AND THERE ARE SMALL FACTIONS THAT EXIST AS A LEGAL GROUPS. >> THIS STORY HAS CAPTURED THE ATTENTION OF THE WORLD. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WITHOUT POINT MUST BE LIKE IN COLUMBIA. >> OVERWHELMING JOY AND RELIEF. EVERYBODY WANTS TO KNOW EVERY DETAIL. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THREE WEEKS AGO THERE WAS CONFUSION. PRESIDENT GUSTAVO PETRO TWEETED THE CHILDREN WERE FOUND AND HAD TO RETRACT IT BECAUSE IT TURNED OUT IT CAME FROM AND MAKE AN ACCURATE OR INCOMPLETE INFORMATION FROM THE CHILD WELFARE AGENCY. IT TURNED OUT THEY HAD NOT BEEN FOUND. AND INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF TENSION. PEOPLE WERE CONFUSED AND ANGRY. THERE WAS MORE PRESSURE TO FIND THE CHILDREN ALIVE. ALL OF THE TIME AUTHORITIES INSISTED THAT THEY WERE ALIVE. EVEN A BABY WAS FOUND ALIVE AND IN GOOD HEALTH AND THAT IS REMARKABLE. THE COUNTRY IS
